As the 2025 time trial season heats up, riders across the UK gear up for a packed weekend of racing on August 9-10. From the return of the fast R25/3H course in South Wales to competitive events in Cambridge, Cumbria, and Yorkshire, the action promises quick times and fierce battles. With stars like National 25-mile champion Adam Duggleby (ADDFORM Vive Le Velo ) and Emily Martin (Team Bottrill) in the mix, expect thrilling performances at these events.

R25/3H Return Headlines Sunday Action

Sunday's Virtual Cycling Club 25-mile time trial marks the eagerly awaited return of the R25/3H course in South Wales, unused since 2019 due to road works. This fast competition record setting course has attracted 105 riders hoping for calm conditions. Emily Martin (Team Bottrill), fresh from her National 25 win, leads the women’s field against teammate Kim Barfoot-Brace and Claire Emons (...a3crg). In the open category, Rob Francis and Jake Sargent (Team Bottrill) are Spindata favorites, but scratch rider James Jenkins (Hart Performance Coaching) and junior Oliver Tregear (Tofauti Everyone Active Majaco) could challenge for the top spots.

Finsbury Park 25 Outside Cambridge

Saturday brings the Finsbury Park 25 on the F2/25B course near Cambridge, where quick times are anticipated. Timothy Torrie (Defined Cycling Team), with three wins from five events and a 23rd at the National 25, starts as scratch rider and Spindata pick, predicted to shave six minutes off his recent 53:49. Sam McDonald (George Fox Cycling Solutions) is tipped to finish within a minute, while veteran David Halliday (Team Bottrill) could contend. For women, Helen Roby (Ride Revolution Cycle Coaching) and Lucy Griffin (Cambridge CC) are among the challengers.

Levens 10 in Cumbria Promises Tight Battle

The Springfield Financial Racing Team 10 on Cumbria’s Levens course sets up a nail-biter on Saturday, with Spindata predicting the top 16 within a minute of the winner. Scottish rider Oliver Pemberton (Vanelli-Project GO ) is favored at 19:07, but scratch rider Matt Morris (Giant-Kendal-Sidas.uk) is just seven seconds behind, and Kamil Waligora (360cycling ) providing stiff competition! Joanna Cebrat (360cycling ) heads the women’s field, facing youth rider Katie Lawson (Secret Training CC) and Sue Cheetham (North Lancashire Road Club).

Vive Le Velo 10 in Yorkshire

Yorkshire’s Vive Le Velo 10 sees the return of the V718 drawing a big field and hoping for calm conditions this weekend. Adam Duggleby (ADDFORM Performance Coaching Vive Le Velo), last weekend’s National 25 champion, is the standout, challenged by Simon Wilson (HUUB WattShop) and Thomas Lee (Team Bottrill). The women’s race features a local duel between Vanessa Barker (Hull Thursday Road Club) and Samantha Bissell (City Road Club Hull).

Weekend Outlook and Age Group Focus

With light winds forecast, records could fall, especially on fast courses like R25/3H and V718. Age groups will see action too—veterans such as David Halliday (Team Bottrill), Steve Smales (Harrogate Nova CC), and Nick James (Aerologic RT). Elsewhere Claire Emons (...a3crg) and Joanna Cebrat could shine, while juniors like Oliver Tregear (Tofauti Everyone Active) and Joshua Palmer (VMCC powered by Y Beic) excitement. This weekend’s events highlight the diversity of time trialling across the UK, from juniors to seniors to age-group veterans.

These CTT events span the UK: R25/3H (South Wales fast 25-mile), F2/25B (Cambridge, 25-mile), Levens (Cumbria, 10-mile), and V718 (Yorkshire, 10-mile). Each offers unique challenges, from technical turns to speedy straights, attracting riders aiming for personal bests.

Beyond the highlighted races, several other time trials round out the weekend, many qualifying for the BBAR (Best British All-Rounder) series. On Saturday, the Sussex Cyclists' Assoc. 15 (G15/92, London South, BBAR qualifying), the ECCA 10 (Terry Anderson Memorial, E2/10, London East), and the Okehampton CC 10 (S40/10, South West, BBAR qualifying).

Sunday includes the www.giant-helston.co.uk 10 (S100/10, South West, BBAR qualifying), Thanet RC 10 TT (Q10/30, South East, BBAR qualifying), Barnesbury CC N&DCA 50-Mile Championship (M5010, North East, BBAR qualifying), Southport CC 15 (D33/15, Liverpool), Eileen Sheridan Memorial 10 (K10/10C, Midland) and Aerologic RT 15 (D315/3, Liverpool). These events offer diverse challenges and opportunities for riders to earn BBAR points.
