Petersfield Triathlon Club stepped into new territory this weekend as they hosted their first-ever Cycling Time Trial, supported by South DC and …a3crg. Seven PTC riders took part -including four first‑timers -alongside a strong volunteer team who helped deliver a smooth and welcoming event.
It was also a special day for the course itself, which hadn’t been used since 2019 and famously hosted the National 10 back in 2016. Riders were treated to a glorious spring afternoon, with a gentle south‑easterly breeze giving a helpful push out to the turn.
A total of 39 riders signed on, producing competitive times across all categories:
1st Open TT Bike: Mathew Buckley (Velo Club Saint Raphael) — 22:48
1st Open Road Bike: Stuart Bettis (Sigma Sports Race Team) — 23:18
1st Female TT Bike: Sarah Mathews (…a3crg) — 27:28
1st Female Road Bike: Katie-Anne Carlton (Paralloy RT) — 27:38
Spot prizes added extra fun to the day:
Linda Roberts (Chichester City Riders) for bravely taking on her first-ever TT
Andrew Plewes (Liss CC) for winning the father–son road bike showdown
In the team competitions, Liss CC claimed the Open Team award, while the overall team competition was won by …a3crg, represented by Howard Bayley, Neil Mackley and Sarah Mathews.
PTC’s club chair Rowena Rogers reflected on the milestone moment:
“As a club this has been a wholly positive exercise running our first TT event. The fantastic response from our club members, both racing and marshalling on the day, provided a wonderful early season focus and a worthwhile day of club fun. We’ve also had lovely feedback already from competitors whose ability to combine gritty riding with a friendly and fun approach ensured an enjoyable day for everyone. Many thanks to all at CTT who supported us through our first event.”
Event organiser Josh Lahiri echoed the enthusiasm:
“As a first-time organiser it’s been amazing to see how the event has been embraced by the community, both within PTC and from the riders on the day. With the support from CTT-South District, DCB and his team at …a3crg, it’s been a pretty seamless process to get the event off the ground — and we’re already looking forward to organising again in the 2027 season!”
A successful debut, sunshine, strong rides, and a buzzing atmosphere - Petersfield Triathlon Club’s first TT has set the tone for many more to come.
