Riding in the Lake District, Naomi de Pennington (3:51:12, DRAG2ZERO) and Thomas Lee (3:24:07, Team Bottrill Nopinz) became the 2026 National 100 mile Champions.
The four lap course, between Keswick and Cockermouth, is a mixture of dual and single carriageway. Though gently rolling in the main, each lap features two long drags that increasingly challenge riders as the miles build up. On good days the course can be fast, notably in 2024 when John Archibald set a 100 mile competition record of 3:12:58. The Lake District weather is often fickle and in 2026, though it was calm and sunny at the Braithwaite headquarters, riders spoke of blustery winds on the exposed Cockermouth end of the course.
Naomi clinched the win with just 26 seconds separating her from second placed Laura Davis. Speaking to organiser Nigel Clementson afterwards Naomi described the battle that took place:
‘I did what I always do, which is go out hard and then suffer. I overtook Laura early on but I knew she was not far behind. Then on the last lap she came past me… I didn’t know what 2 minutes gap looks like on the road… I was clinging on and just managed to hold it to the end.’
Thomas Lee admitted to Nigel that he actually enjoyed the event: ‘I kept it as positive as I could and was able to lift it at the end. I smashed it for the last seven and a half miles and managed to get the win which is really nice.
Completing the podium for the women, second place Laura Davis and third, Roxy Woodfield.
In the open category, Oliver Pemberton was second and Marcel Schubert third.
