Donald Ashton

It is with great sadness that Cycling Time Trials shares the news of the passing of Donald “Don” Ashton. Don served our sport with extraordinary dedication over many decades, most notably through his tireless work with London West District Council and Farnborough & Camberley CC. Don was the backbone of event organisation in London West - overseeing district programmes, preventing event clashes, managing police notifications, and ensuring courses met all regulations. His technical skill, deep knowledge of CTT rules, and meticulous attention to detail set standards the rest of us could only admire. Whether as an event organiser, timekeeper, course measurer, or certifier of timing equipment, Don’s contribution was unmatched. He was the person everyone turned to -calm, fair, and always willing to help. Many recalled how he guided clubs through date‑fixing meetings, solved problems before others even spotted them, and stepped up without hesitation when the District needed him most, including organising the National 12‑Hour Championship at short notice. Above all, Don was a friend, a trusted colleague, and a constant presence in our sport. His knowledge, generosity, and commitment shaped London West for generations, and those who worked with him cannot remember a time without his influence. We owe Don a tremendous debt of gratitude. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Our heartfelt condolences go to his family, friends, and clubmates.
