Race Report – Hashtag Coaching 10 Mile TT
The Hashtag Coaching 10 Mile TT took place today in warm, sunny conditions with a slight southerly crosswind.
A total of 84 riders signed up for the event, with 71 riders completing the course. We welcomed 10 newcomers and several riders returning to time trials after a few years away from racing.
Laura Davis came within seconds of breaking the women’s course record while Joe Skipper (JYD) set a new course record.
As the course had not been used for several years, many riders commented on how much they enjoyed the change from the frequently used B10/43.
There were some standout performances from Beccles Triathlon Club:
Claire Sargeant achieved a 1 minute 7 second PB and placed first female on the Spindata results.
Cheryl Goymer, also from Beccles Triathlon Club and our eldest female competitor, achieved a 1 minute 1 second PB.
Our eldest open competitor was 83-year-old Bob Brabbins (Kings Lynn CC).
Two new road bike course records were set:
Kerstin Schankat (VC Norwich) set the women’s road bike record.
Hugh Williams (NAUT Cycling) set the men’s road bike record.
We also had a couple of riders competing on vintage bikes, which was fantastic to see.
Prize parity was implemented across the open and female categories, as we want to encourage more women into the sport and believe equal prizes are only fair.
The event was run as non-profit, with all funds going to the East Anglian Air Ambulance. A final total is still to be confirmed, but it looks as though we have raised around £700.
Jenny from Jennifer Sophie Sports Massage provided pre- and post-race massages, which several riders enjoyed.
Finally, Dan Palfrey described the event as “Fast, friendly and open to all.”
