The Zurbaran Racing 25, held on Saturday 25 April at 14:00, enjoyed a fantastic sunny afternoon, though riders still felt the chill of the easterly wind. A strong field of 45 riders took to the start, with most travelling from the surrounding region -and one competitor making the long journey from Inverness. It was also encouraging to see four full teams of three, adding extra excitement to the team competition.

A close‑fought team battle

The team standings proved incredibly tight, with Cleveland Wheelers taking the win by only a few seconds ahead of the hosting club, Zurbaran Racing. The close margins reflected the competitive spirit across the field.

A smooth‑running HQ and great atmosphere

Race HQ at North Cowton Village Hall provided an excellent base for the event. Many riders stayed afterwards for food, conversation, and the prize presentation, creating a friendly and social atmosphere that rounded off the day perfectly.

The event ran like a well‑oiled machine, with every member of the organising team playing their part. Riders offered very positive feedback, praising both the course and the organisation.

A near miss with the course

The organisers faced a last‑minute challenge when temporary traffic lights appeared in Scorton on Thursday - threatening to shorten the event to a 10‑mile course. After two days of phone calls and contingency planning, the lights were finally removed by Friday afternoon, allowing the full 25‑mile event to go ahead as planned.
