The VTTA Derek Hodgins Memorial Ride brought together riders, volunteers, and supporters for an enjoyable afternoon of competitive cycling and celebration.
Despite a last-minute course adjustment due to roadworks, favourable conditions helped produce a number of impressive performances across the field. Newcomer Alice Larkin (Glossop Kinder Velo Cycling Club) delivered a strong ride on a road bike, while Adrian Fox (Congleton CC – MyWindsock) marked his birthday with a personal best.
Chris Maffei (360cycling) claimed the Derek Hodgins Memorial Trophy as the fastest Manchester & North West VTTA member on age-adjusted time, adding another highlight to a competitive day of racing.
The overall event was won by Alex Royle (Manchester Bicycle Club), with strong performances also recognised across the women's, road bike, age-group, tandem, and team categories.
The day served as a fitting tribute to Derek Hodgins, with special thanks extended to his son for donating and presenting prizes. Riders, officials, marshals, and volunteers all played their part in creating a successful and welcoming event.
The organisers also express their gratitude to everyone who assisted following two rider incidents during the event and wish those involved a full and speedy recovery.
