This past weekend saw a flurry of exciting cycling time trial action across the UK, with standout performances in events ranging from 10 to 50 miles. From the windy roads of Monmouthshire to the iconic Goodwood Motor Circuit, riders battled challenging conditions and fierce competition to claim victories. Here’s a comprehensive summary of the weekend’s highlights.
Royal Dean Forest 25: Jenkins and Lee Shine in Monmouthshire
The Royal Dean Forest Cycling Club (RDFCC) 25-mile time trial on the R25/7 course saw James Jenkins (Hart Performance Coaching) storm to victory in the open category with an impressive 47:12, beating Tony Chapman (Frome and District Wheelers) (48:59) and Mark Hamer (Legato Racing Team (LRT)) (50:28). Jenkins, who travelled from Essex, noted the windy conditions but was pleased with the win, improving on his second-place finish from last year.
In the women’s event, host club rider Michelle Lee (Royal Dean Forest Cycle Club) 56:25 to take the top spot, exactly one minute ahead of Deb Hutson-Lumb (Legato Racing Team (LRT)) , with Emma Wyatt (Hereford & Dist Whs CC) securing third in 58:39. Lee described pacing strategically against a headwind and using a rider ahead to gauge her progress, despite a premature sprint at the finish.
Nathan Monk (Gloucester City Cycling Club) led the road bike category with 1:05:43, while junior Zachary Rusling (Royal Dean Forest Cycle Club) impressed with a 57:46, earning 26th overall.
North Tyneside Riders 27: Jagger and Hendrickse Conquer Hilly Course
Mark Jagger (Team Lifting Gear Products) claimed his fourth win of the season at the North Tyneside Riders CC 27-mile time trial on the M27 course, posting 1:11:40 on a road bike. He outpaced John Bowman (Muckle Cycle Club) (1:12:45) and Colin Atkinson (Muckle Cycle Club) (1:15:05). Jagger highlighted catching Bowman early on the Bilsmoor climb as a key moment. Rebekah Hendrickse (EMC Cycling) won the women’s category with 1:21:42, also on a road bike, ahead of Louise Burnie (Blaydon CC) (1:28:35). The sunny conditions and challenging hills made for a memorable race.
VTTA East Midlands 25: Oakes and Moore Prevail
Richard Oakes (Team Ohten Aveas) secured his second win of 2025 at the VTTA East Midlands 25-mile time trial on the A25/33 course, clocking 49:21. He outrode Matthew Uttley (Team Bottrill) (52:05) and Philip Wharton (Team Bottrill) (53:06). Oakes noted the breezy conditions, saving energy for a strong final five miles. Pamela Moore (Coalville Whs) topped the women’s event with 1:10:10, beating Lynne Scofield (Rockingham Forest Wheelers) by over two minutes. Alec Dovinson (Mansfield Road Club) led the road bike category with 1:06:41.
Southdown Velo 10: Matthews and Derangi Excel
Sarah Matthews (...a3crg) claimed her fourth win of the season at the Southdown Velo Fontwell 10-mile time trial on the P901/10 course, posting 23:35 despite a strong headwind. Cosmo Derangi (Brighton Mitre CC) took the open category with 20:46, narrowly beating Henry Austin (Poole Wheelers Cycling Club) (20:49) and Larry Wiltshire (Racing Club Ravenna) (20:55). Derangi described the headwind’s impact but was thrilled with his first win of the season. Wiltshire also claimed the top veteran prize.
Eastern Counties CA 50 Championship: Lee and Robinson Set PBs
Thomas Lee (Team Bottrill) celebrated back-to-back wins with a personal best of 1:32:32 at the Eastern Counties Cycling Association 50-mile Championship on the E2/50D2 course, leading Jack Levick (Rose Race Team) (1:34:08) and Paul Burton (Paceline RT) (1:34:49). Lee also helped Team Bottrill secure the team prize. Louise Robinson (Shaftesbury CC) won the women’s event with a personal best of 1:49:38, overcoming back issues to beat Kim Barfoot-Brace (Team Bottrill) (1:54:41) and Claire Emons (...a3crg) (1:57:33).
Goodwood Time Trial League Finale: Nisbett and Sharp Close in Style
The Goodwood Time Trial League concluded with round seven on the P917/10 course, where 18-year-old Oscar Nisbett (trainSharp Roman RT) won the open category in a tight 19:27, just one second ahead of Kevin Chant (Wightlink CRT). Izzy Sharp (Lidl - Trek) topped the women’s category with 20:49. Cosmo Derangi (Brighton Mitre CC) continued his strong form, winning the open road bike event in 20:46. Junior Skye Martingale (Type One Style) and youth Evan Mitchell (Solent Pirates Youth Cycling Club) also shone, despite gloomy conditions.
Yorkshire RC Victory Cup 25: Duggleby and Hannon-Flaherty Triumph
Adam Duggleby (ADDFORM Vive Le Velo) delivered a stellar 49:20 to win the Yorkshire Road Club Victory Cup 25-mile time trial on the V235 course, the only rider under 50 minutes. Matt Chipping (Leeds & Bradford Tri Club) (52:32) and Stuart Henderson (ADDFORM Vive Le Velo) (54:40) followed. Angela Hannon-Flaherty (Seacroft Whs) won the women’s Pennine Cup with 1:03:17. Joseph Healy (Ravensthorpe CC) led the open road bike category with 56:09.
Kent CA 10: Fennell and Graveney Dominate
Nicholas Fennell (Thanet RC) maintained his perfect 2025 record with a 19:47 at the Kent Cycling Association 10-mile time trial on the Q10/1 course, joined on the podium by Andrew Meilak (VeloRefined Rule5 Aerosmiths) (20:25) and Kevin Tye (VeloRefined Rule5 Aerosmiths) (20:28). Hannah Graveney (Doltcini O’Shea Cycle Division) won the women’s event with 23:20, ahead of Tracy Wilkinson-Begg (Vanelli-Project GO) (26:22). Fennell noted the cooler-than-expected conditions, while Graveney was pleased with her performance after a week off the bike.
Didcot Phoenix 10: Witchell and Wilkie Take Honours
Ryan Witchell (George Fox Cycling Solutions) secured his second win of 2025 at the Didcot Phoenix Cycling Club 10-mile time trial on the H10/17R course with 20:51, beating Robert West (Team Ohten Aveas) (21:25) and Matthew Bottomley (Cowley Road Condors CC) (21:30). Jo Wilkie (Cheltenham & County Cycling Club) won the women’s category on a road bike with 24:19, ahead of Laura Pittard (FTP ( Fulfil The Potential ) Race Team) (25:02). Wilkie noted the tough headwind but was rewarded with tea and cake at the well-organised event.
