It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Keith Wilkinson (Surrey RC) passed away peacefully on 20th February 2024. His funeral will be held on Tuesday 12th March at 10am at the Surrey & Sussex Crematorium on Balcombe Road (RH10 3NQ), with the wake afterwards in Smallfield. All those attending are welcome to wear a cycling Jersey.
Keith was involved in cycling in the District for many years, both as a rider and as an official/organiser of many events as well as many back office roles. He was a driving force of the VTTA for decades, and it could be argued that he was responsible for it's longevity with his passion and commitment to the organisation and those it represents. He was an active member of LSDC, holding most positions on the committee for over 20 years, sometimes more than one, as well as representing London South at National level for many years.
He promoted The East Surrey RC Hardriders and VTTA 25 for over a decade and was involved in many other events as an offical in some capacity or other. The biggest testiment to his dedication to the sport was that, despite suffering with significant health issues in recent years, he continued on the LSDC and always attended meetings proving his knowledge of Regulations and the history of the sport time and time again.
On a personal level, when I took over as General Secreatry, he was there to guide, nurture and also "spell check" my minutes and documents to ensure accuracy and keep me on my game. I considered him a friend and valued his counsel, especially as it was always delivered with a gentle hand. He will be sadly missed and it is seems only fitting that he received a CTT Certificate of Honour at the 2023 LSDC AGM recognising his years of service.
Our thoughts are with his wife Judy and the rest of his family at this time and we will remember him always with fondness and respect.
RIP Keith and keep those heavenly pedals turning.
