24 Hours. One Championship. Endless determination.

This weekend sees one of the most iconic events in British time trialling as riders line up for the 2026 RTTC National 24 Hour Championship, promoted by Manchester DC. Starting on Saturday afternoon and finishing 24 hours later on Sunday, competitors will push themselves through daylight, darkness and back into daylight again in pursuit of a coveted national title.

The National 24 has a rich history stretching back to 1937, when the event was first established as the legendary Mersey Roads 24 Hour Time Trial. Generations of riders have taken on the unique challenge of riding against the clock for an entire day, making it one of the sport's greatest tests of endurance, resilience and meticulous planning.

This year's championship features a strong field packed with experienced 24-hour specialists alongside riders tackling the discipline at the highest level for the first time. The women's competition also promises an exciting battle, with riders including Mandy Lane, Alex Roberts, Erica Clarkson and Chris Murray all set to contest the national title.

The event is far more than just the riders. An army of timekeepers, marshals, recorders, course controllers and volunteers will work around the clock to ensure the championship runs safely, while many competitors will rely on dedicated support crews to keep them fuelled and moving through the night.

The course itself is a fascinating challenge, beginning on the Cheshire roads before moving onto a series of circuits around Prees Heath, Battlefield and Quina Brook. As the race develops, riders are directed onto different sections of the course depending on their progress, culminating in a finishing circuit around Wrexham where every final mile could prove decisive.

One of the highlights of the weekend is Prees Heath Roundabout, which becomes the heart of the event. Throughout the afternoon, evening and into the night it's a real carnival atmosphere, with support crews, volunteers, spectators and fellow competitors creating a unique buzz that you simply don't find at any other time trial. Whether you're a lifelong 24-hour enthusiast or have never seen one before, it's well worth coming along to soak up the atmosphere and cheer the riders on as they chase every precious mile.

For many, simply reaching the finish after 24 relentless hours will be a remarkable achievement. For a select few, a National Championship jersey awaits.
