Teesside District 2023 Bulletin No 2

2023 Cycling Time Trials Season
The first time trial event in the region is in Yorkshire on 4th March, the Yorkshire VTTA 10 mile time trial on the V212 course, a single rural carriageway, running north/south, adjacent to the A1M local to Boroughbridge.

The first event in the Teesside District is on Sunday 19th March the Darlington CC hill climb on Brusselton Hill, (Reference: THC42) located near West Auckland, County Durham.  This hill/course has not been used for many a year, with no record of the fastest time.  This is an opportunity to get your name in the record books.  Closing Date for all entries via the Cycling Time Trials on-line entry system is 7th March.

The course description is: Start at bottom end of Brusselton West Incline road, at T-junction with Brusselton Lane, approximately 0.36 miles south of West Auckland Road/A6072 Roundabout. Proceed south and uphill along Brusselton Lane for 0.8 miles to finish near upper end of gate to aerial tower opposite gate post just ahead of crest and left-hand corner. Please note all mileages are approximate.

Why not give it a go and dust off those winter cobwebs.  This event also provides an opportunity to gets some points on the board in this the first event in the district season long hill climb competition.  The current league table will be published after each qualifying event.

New for 2023

Road Bike League:  The District are organizing an additional competition in 2023.  With increased interest in the use of road bikes in time trials, and to encouraging everyone with a road bike to participate in 2 x 10 mile & 2 x 25 mile time trials on Teesside courses.
This is an opportunity to enter a season long competition on your road bike.

For those who do not want to race on the open road, the 5 Wednesday evening Croft events are included as well as the VTTA Closed Circuit Northern Time Trial Championship ( for over 40’s and the CTT National Closed Circuit Time Trial Championship. A total of 17 counting events. 

Details of all this competition will be published in the next Bulletin.

Please remember that to comply with the current Road Traffic Act, you need to notify each police force that the course to be used passes through.  This notification needs to be submitted at least 28 days before the event is to take place.

Only open or club events that have received prior approval from the Teesside district committee are covered by the Cycling Time Trials insurance.  The course to be used also must be approved by the district committee and must have been the subject of a current formal and documented risk assessment.

Teesside Events & Competitions
The 2023 open event and competition booklet & Courses booklet, which details all the local competitions, the events programme and courses to be used has been emailed to all district CTT website users, clubs & organizers and has also been posted on various cycling orientated Facebook pages.
