Multiple national champions already this year, Kate Allan and John Archibald will be aiming to put their mantlepieces under more strain this weekend with victories at the National 10-Mile Championship in Cambridgeshire.
HUUB-WattShop rider John Archibald is already the 2024 national champion over 25, 50 and 100 miles as well as having won the National Closed Circuit Championship, and Team Bottrill rider Allan is the 2024 champion over 25, 50 and 100 miles.
But their victories are far from certain, with both the men’s and women’s events boasting stacked fields of quality riders at an event organised by Hitchin Nomads CC.
Archibald was a non-starter at last year’s title race, and with none of last year’s podium finishers entered this year it is wide open.
Cambridge University CC’s Will Lowden and Piotr Zulawski of Cambridge CC will be hoping that local knowledge will give them an advantage on the dual carriageway course near Cambourne, while Team Bottrill’s main hope in the open event comes from Jake Sargent.
In-form Nicholas Trbovic (Elysium Kalas Race Team), Adam Duggleby (ADDFORM Vive le Velo) and George Peden (Team PB Performance) are all riders to watch for too.
Defending champion Kate Allan will face competition from Team Bottrill colleague Alex Clay who was third last year, while their team-mate Emily Martin also rides as does Laura Davies, the Jadan Vive le Velo rider who was fifth in 2023’s title race.
Saturday afternoon sees the open event taking place, while the women and juniors events are on Sunday morning.
Elsewhere, it’s the Welsh 12-Hour championship near Abergavenny in Monmouthshire, where Henrik Persson (Fulfil the Potential Race Team) is tipped by Spindata to take a narrow win ahead of Pat Wright (Paceline RT) and Alex Royle (Manchester BC).
Tyneside Vagabonds are organising a 100-miler which is also the Veterans TTA National Championship and the Northumberland and Durham CA Championship.
Spindata predicts a one-two for GTR Return to Life p/b Streamline with Chris Smart expected to be over ten minutes ahead of colleague John Routledge, while Andrew Whiteley (Team Lifting Gear Products) won’t be far behind.
360cycling rider Joanna Cebrat and Angela Hannon-Flaherty (Seacroft Wheelers) are among the top women in the field for the event near Pegswood in Northumberland.
With September just around the corner the hill climbing scene is coming out to play, and there are three events taking place this weekend.
National champion Andrew Feather (HuntBikeWheels.com) and former national champion Bithja Jones (Elevate RT) are both down to ride the Elevate RT event on an 800-metre climb of Dean Hill near Salisbury.
Also riding are Harry MacFarlane (TAAP Kalas), Josh Aiken (Elevate RTY) and Ewan Tuohy (Arctic Aircon RT) to name just a few.
Also on Sunday it’s the Team Judge Tyrekey climb of Billy Lane near Eggleston in County Durham.
Saturday’s hill climb is promoted by Dursley Road Club on the Lampern Hill course near Uley in Gloucestershire, where Rapha CC’s Ross Howcroft-Jones is tipped to win, while Josh Coyne (Pump and Pedal Racing) and Matthew Skeats (Univ of Bristol CC) are also expected to be chasing a podium finish.
Saturday’s other events include the Northampton and District CA 10 near Sawtry in Cambridgeshire, as well as the Rutland CC 10 in South Yorkshire and the Liverpool Century RC 10 near Tarleton in Cheshire.
And Sunday’s events include the Southern Counties CU 25 near Ockley in Surrey as well as the VC Glasgow South 22-mile event near Stewarton in East Ayrshire.
Leamington C&AC host a 10-mile event near Thurlaston in Warwickshire, while Barnesbury CC have a 25-mile event near to the site of the Tyneside Vagabonds 100.
