The National 100-Mile Championships takes place on Sunday, with most of the country’s top riders set to compete over a challenging course near Cockermouth in Cumbria.
Both of the defending champions return in Emily Martin (Team Bottrill) and Adam Duggleby (ADDFORM Vive le Velo), but their titles will be under threat from a number of other top riders.
Second last year, Lizi Brooke (Hemel Hempstead CC) will be one to watch, as well as Martin’s team-mates Kate Allan and Alex Clay with Allan hoping to repeat her win in the National 50-Mile Championship a fortnight ago.
In the open category national 50-mile champion John Archibald (HUUB WattShop) is tipped for glory by national ranking system Spindata, while James Jenkins (Hart Performance Coaching) and Jake Sargent (Team Bottrill) are also going for the win.
GS Metro’s Adam Wild makes a rare appearance and could be a long shot, while Rob Francis (Team Bottrill) and Hadyn James (BPC FLOWBIO Race Team) are in good form too.
The event is the George Nowland Memorial 100 and uses the Braithwaite Institute as the headquarters. First rider is off at just after 7am in an event organised by the North Lancashire TTA.
A close result is expected in the Shaftesbury CC 50-mile event near Cambourne on Sunday, with Spindata putting just five seconds between Liam Maybank (Twickenham CC) and Nic Fennell (Thanet RC), while don’t rule out Henrik Persson (FTP Race Team) and Anthony Jones (VMCC powered by Y Beic) who have both been in good form recently.
On Saturday Jones also takes part in the VTTA National 50-Mile Championships near Abergavenny, with Spindata listing him as the favourite, while in the women’s category Debbie Moss (Springfield Financial RT), Emma Wyatt (Hereford and Dist Wh) and Roxy Woodfield (Ludlow Brewery Race Team) are among the top riders.
HUUB WattShop’s Sally Turner is expected to be top female at the VTTA London and Home Counties 10, while Lauren Creamer (Velo Fixers) and Louise Robinson (Shaftesbury CC) won’t be far behind according to Spindata.
Nicholas Trbovic (Elysium Kalas RT) looks set to win the open event, with Team Bottrill’s Josh Williams and Joel Stewart (Team Ohten Aveas) also tipped to do 18-minute riders.
West Midlands Police CC are holding the Emergency Services Championships over 10 miles on Saturday and 25 miles on Sunday.
Sian Marsh (Team Boompods), Hayley Wells (Wrekinsport CC) and Deb Hutson-Lumb (Wrekinsport CC) are among the top female competitors for Saturday’s 10-mile event, while on Sunday Marsh doesn’t ride.
In the open event both events have Tom Clements (Poole Wheelers), Tomos Hales (Wrekinsport CC) and Terry Wilkinson (GTR Return to Life) tipped by Spindata to complete the podium.
The Yorkshire Cycling Federation stage the Andy Wilson Memorial 50-mile event near Knaresborough in North Yorkshire, with Jack Levick (Rose RT) hotly tipped to take the win by some margin.
The women’s category has City Road Club Hull’s Samantha Bissell and Beth Grogan (Selby CC) down to ride.
Other events on Saturday include the AeroCoach Midlands 15-mile Championships in Worcestershire, while Seamons CC have a 25-miler near Goostrey, Cheshire.
Border City Wheelers and Wolsey RC both have ten-mile events in Cumbria and Suffolk respectively.
Sunday’s other events include the Barnesbury CC three-up 25 in Northumberland, the Reading CC 25 in Berkshire and the Teesdale CRC 24.4 in County Durham.
Further south it’s the Southern Counties CU 100 in West Sussex, while Sotonia CC have a 10 near Andover and Mid-Devon CC stage a 25-mile event near Buckfastleigh in Devon.
