Some fast times are expected north of the border on Sunday, when St Christopher’s CC will be hosting the Scottish National 25-Mile Championship in Renfrewshire.

One of almost two dozen time trials happening up and down the country, Sunday’s title race sees some lightning-fast riders due to compete for the honour on the WW25/01 course near Bishopton.

National ranking system Spindata has Liam Beaty (Hawick CC) down as the man to beat with a predicted time of 50-06, but not far behind are GTR-Return to Life team-mates Dougie Watson and Chris Smart, not to mention Deeside Thistle’s Calum Gibb.

The women’s field is led by national 100-mile champion Joanna Patterson (Wahoo Endurance Zone p/b Le Col) with a predicted time of 53-25, which would give her a comfortable win over all other women in the field.

But you can never rule out 2021 National 24-Hour champion Christina Murray (Army Cycling), or indeed the 2020 national 12-hour champion Christina MacKenzie (Stirling BC).

Elsewhere, Lloyd Chapman (Loose Cannon’s Conditioning) is expected to be fastest at the Diss and District CC 25 on the B25/17 course near Bressingham in Norfolk, with his team-mate Matt O’Brien being placed second according to Spindata’s predictions.

Their team-mates Hannah O’Brien and Verity Smith are down as the fastest females in the field with O’Brien expected to better her colleague by over three and a half minutes.

The R25 course near Usk is the venue for the Virtual CC 25, with Conrad Moss (Primera TeamJobs) down to be the fastest rider and aiming to make it eight wins in a row. He clocked 46-31 for the same course in the Ross-on-Wye CC 25 last month.

Owen Burgess (UF Rowe & King) secured the Welsh 10-Mile Championship win last weekend, and is down to push Moss all the way.

Meanwhile Claire Emons (a3crg) is down as the fastest female according to Spindata.

Saturday’s events include the Sherwood CC 25 near East Stoke in Nottinghamshire, where in-form Jack Levick (Rose Race Team) is expected to storm to victory in a time around 48-34, while David Mead (Hinckley CRC) and Toby Williams (Velotik RT) are also expected to challenge for a podium place.

Other events to keep an eye on include the Bramley Wheelers 25 near Topcliffe in North Yorkshire, while further up the country there’s the Cleveland Wheelers 10 at Stokesley and the Barnesbury CC 10 near Cramlington in Northumberland.

In Sussex there’s the Southdown Velo 10 with in-form Chris McNamara (Nuun-Sigma Sport) expected to break the 19-minute mark, while there’s also the Didcot Phoenix 10 at Kingston Bagpuize.
