THREE of the medallists from last weekend’s National 100-Mile Championship are preparing to return to action at the Shaftesbury CC 50-mile time trial in Cambridgeshire on Sunday.
Just one of a host of time trials up and down the country, the event uses the popular F2/50 course near Cambourne and has attracted a good field of 82 riders – several of whom are chasing fast times to count towards this season’s British Best All-Rounder (BBAR) competition.
Team Bottrill’s Tom Hutchinson was second in the National 100 but is tipped to go one better in this event, with national ranking system Spindata predicting he takes the win from Anthony Jones (VMCC powered by Y Beic).
Others tipped to do well include Alex Royle (Manchester BC) who was third in the National 100, as well as Jonathan Shubert (Fulfil the Potential RT) and Adam Bidwell (Kingston Wheelers).
In the women’s event all eyes will be on National 100-Mile Championship runner-up Kate Allan (Team Bottrill), although you can never write off experienced a3crg rider and multiple veterans national record holder Angela Carpenter.
In North Yorkshire there’s a quality field expected for the Stockton Wheelers 25-mile event near Crathorne on Sunday. Adam Duggleby (Chapeau! Vive le Velo) is the last rider off and expected to take the win having shaken off a bout of Covid which prevented him from riding the National 100.
Trek Sheffield’s Richard Dean and Ben White (Manilla Cycling) are others to watch out for, while there’s healthy competition expected in the women’s category.
Maria Mulleady-Kershaw (Trek Sheffield) and Karen Taylor (Team Sportslab) are separated by just three seconds according to Spindata’s predictions, while Liz Ball (Valley Striders CC) isn’t far behind.
In Devon, Conrad Moss (Primera TeamJobs) will be aiming to make it five out of five open time trials in 2022 when he rides the Mid-Devon CC 25-mile event near Buckfastleigh on Sunday morning.
Others who could be eyeing the podium are Donald Brooks (Mid-Devon CC) and Gavin MacDougall (RNRMCA), while Martina Geraghty (Penzance Wheelers) and Rose Willis (St Austell Wheelers) will be competing for the women’s prize.
Elsewhere the Farnham Road Club are holding a four-up team time trial on the Bentley by-pass course in Hampshire. Similar events are happening up and down the country too, with Ayr Roads CC staging a three-up over 31.5 miles near Irvine, and Tuxford Clarion are using a 25-mile course for their three-up in Nottinghamshire.
Saturday’s events include the a3crg Glorious Goodwood events, which incorporated the District Championship and has events for road bikes, TT bikes, heritage bikes, a round of the National Youth Championships and a four-up team time trial. Something for everyone!
