Photo: Veteran Christopher McNamara (Nuun-Sigma Sport-London RT) starts as last man off in the Crawley Wheelers CC sporting event on Good Friday as open time trialling makes a welcome return.
He won six events last season, but will again face tough competition from his brother Simon McNamara (HuntBikeWheel.com). Meanwhile triathlete Rebecca Goodwin (Windrush Triathlon Club) will be looking to challenge her experience competitors in the women’s race.
A full field of 121 riders and reserves will be keen to test their early season form in the Welwyn Wheelers CC Hilly.
Ollie Hucks (Nopinz Motip Race Team) and last rider off Ashley Cox (Team Bottrill) will be amongst those vying for victory in the men’s event.
The women’s field has a youthful feel with under-23 riders Isabel Ellis (Torelli), Elspeth Grace (Cambridge University CC), Lucy Neathman (Finsbury Park CC) and Connie Hayes (Liv AWOL) joined by junior Ella Coleman (LIV AWOL).
The Mid-Devon CC sporting 23-mile event will also be well fought with 109 riders keen to get their season off to a winning start.
Steve Lampier (Saint Piran) won three races from three starts last season and starts as last man.
However, he faces stiff competition with Max Stedman (HuntBikeWheels.com), Josh Coyne (Bpm Coaching), George Kimber (Spirit Tifosi RT) and Josh Griffiths (Bikestrong-KTM) all hoping for victory.
There is also a strong women’s field with 13 riders listed and junior Hannah Rainger (Plymouth Corinthians CC) is the last rider away.
Saturday starts with the Brighton Mitre CC (hilly) which will see Lisa Davies (Drag2Zero) back in action in the women’s event, but she will face tough competition in the form of Angela Carpenter (…a3crg).
Samuel Painter (TBW23 Stuart Hall Cycling P/B Trainsharp) will be looking for an opening win of the season in the men’s event.
The road bikes only event will see Painter’s team-mate Sam Clark starting his campaign while Laura Senior (Saint Piran) and Lucy Williams (Crawley Wheelers) go in the women’s event.
The opening race of the season in the North East will also be hotly contested with 120 riders due to start the Barnesbury CC event over 21 miles.
Michael Gill (AeroLab Ward Wheelz) finished second in the Barnesbury 10 last season and will be looking to go one better over the longer distance while Keith Murray (Drag2Zero) is last man away.
Meanwhile, in the women’s event Joanne Rea (Blaydon CC) will look to get her season off to a winning start.
Over the more traditional 25-mile distance riders will be heading down to the Kings Lynn CC 25.
After finishing in the podium places five times last season Mark Richards (DAP Cycling Club) starts as scratch man but will face fierce competition from others including Timothy Torie (TBW23 Stuart Hall Cycling P/B Trainsharp).
In the women’s event Chanel Mason (Storey Racing) gets her season underway.
There is also a tandem event which will see Billy Jarish and Jack Levick (Rose Race Team) starting last men.
Easter Sunday sees the return of the traditional 10 events with three eagerly awaited races.
The Velo Long Eaton 10 sees 77 riders listed ready for the out and back event on the A50 near Derby.
Veteran Matthew Bottrill starts as last man but will face stiff competition in the form of Alexander Royle (Manchester Bicycle Club) and Oliver Peckover (Uplift Nutrition Race Team) amongst others.
With a personal best of 22-32 Jo Corbett (Sherwood CC) starts as last woman in the women’s race.
A weekend double in the South West will see riders compete in the Plymouth Corinthian 10.
Josh Coyne (Bpm Coaching) is one of the riders hoping for victory in both races but will face tough competition with 65 riders listed.
The women’s field includes Anja Roeding (Exeter Wheelers) and Kari Eilertsen (Alltrax) amongst others.
Meanwhile, Samuel Wadsley (Primera-Teamjobs) gets his season underway at the CC Weymouth 10 also on Sunday.
Josh Copley (TBW23 Stuart Hall Cycling P/B Trainsharp) is amongst a strong field looking to get their season off to a flying start.
Under-23 rider Lucy Gadd (Storey Racing) will be looking to win the women’s event but will face competition in the form of Rachel Hackman (Royal Navy & Royal Marines CA) amongst others.
Easter Monday also sees three events to finish a bumper weekend of racing.
Veterans Simon McNamara (HuntBikeWheels.com) and Lisa Davies (Drag2Zero) will both be looking to finish a weekend to remember with victories in the Brighton Mitre CC 25 (hilly) if they have enough left in their legs.
The road bike event also sees a strong field with Joss Lowden (Drops - Le Col S/B Tempur) looking to complete a long weekend double in the women’s race.
A huge field of 144 riders are due to start the Cambridge CC 10 on the out and back A428 course over 15 miles.
With a personal best of 17-58 over 10 miles Russell Hampton (Onimpex Bioracer RT) is scratch rider while Hayley Simmonds (CAMS-Tifosi) gets her time trial season underway in the women’s event.
Another intriguing battle awaits for honours in the Manchester Bicycle Club 10 between on the A6 near Chapel-en-le-Frith.
Sarah Storey (Storey Racing) gets her season underway in the women’s event but will have to see off tough competition for victory from Abi Smith (Team Breeze), Eluned King (Liv CC Halo Cycles) and junior Maddie Leech (PH-MAS Cycling).
The men’s race sees a strong showing by under-23 team Team Inspired who will all have to beat veteran Simon Wilson (Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling) on his first outing of the season.
