Photo: Long distance specialists are coming to the fore this weekend to test their post lockdown form this weekend.
The first 12-hour event of the summer takes place on Sunday when riders head to Norfolk for the CC Breckland race.
Last season’s National 12 Hour Championship bronze medallist Tom Thornley (Buxton CC/Sett Valley Cycles) will be looking to improve on his 14th in the Shaftesbury 50 in mid-July.
Joe Skipper (Team Skipper) goes off third from last and will be hoping for a first victory of the season on the six laps of the Browick Interchange Circuit on the A11.
Elsewhere, finishing second in the a3crg Glorious Goodwood Circuit TT last weekend veteran rider Chris McNamara (Nuun-Sigma Sport-London-RT) will be looking to take his first win in the Sussex CA 50.
He will face competition in both events from Paul Burton (Paceline RT) along with Kevin Tye (Velo Refined Rule 5) and Dean Lubin (Team Vision Racing – Silverhook), amongst others in what looks an intriguing battle for the podium places.
All eyes will be on HuntBikeWheelers.com duo Ryan Christensen and Simon McNamara when the team-mates go head-to-head in the South Eastern RC 10 on Saturday on the out and back course along the A29 near Dorking.
New Zealand professional rider Christensen set a winning time of 20-10 in the Addiscombe 10 last weekend while McNamara won the Sussex CA 30.
The women’s field is also a strong one and is headed by Jennifer George (Memorial-Santos) as the last woman to start.
She could face fierce competition in the form of rising junior star Eva Callinan (Liv Awol) who clocked 21-49 on a road bike last weekend.
The Darlington 10, held on a sporting course, will see a bumper field with 80 riders down on the start sheet.
Veteran Mark Wolstenholme (Team Swift) starts as scratch rider in his first event of the year.
Philip Graves (VC York) clocked a 19-41 before competition was halted in March and is amongst a strong list of competitors.
Great Britain track cyclist Anna Docherty (Team Breeze) heads the women’s field which also includes fellow youngsters Hannah Bayes (Liv Awol) and Maddie Leech (PH-MAS Cycling).
In the Orwell Velo event over 20 miles Drag2Zero rider Matthew Smith goes off last man in the point to point event.
Elsewhere on Saturday, a field of 100 riders are due to start the Pendle Forest 10 out and back along the A590 in Cumbria.
The following day Chris Bartley (AS Test Team) starts as scratch rider out of a stellar field in the Bedfordshire RC 25.
After finishing third in last year’s National 50 Championships he is yet to ride this season.
However, he will have to see off the unknown competition over 25 miles of professional road rider Christensen, who will be looking for a weekend double.
While Ross Clarke (TMG Horizon CT), Kieran Morris (Team Bottrill) and Dean Robson (Velo Sport Jersey) are amongst those that will provide strong competition.
After winning last weekend’s event junior Thomas Day (Zannata Galloo Team) will be hoping to repeat the achievement in the …A3crg Glorious Goodwood Circuit TT.
He completed the five laps (11.7 miles) in 22-37 last weekend to win the men’s time trial event by over a minute.
Full startsheets from these and other events are available on the CTT website. Remember to keep checking back to the CTT website over the weekend for reports and results.
