Photo: COMPETITION records tumbled across the country this time 12 months ago as riders hit form at the right time and had the conditions to match.
After clinching both the National 50 and 100 crowns Marcin Bialoblocki (NOPINZ) took the individual men’s 100 record by storming to victory in the East District CA 100 in Norfolk.
Bialoblocki knocked over three minutes off the previous mark to win the event in 3-13-37.
Almost 13 minutes behind the winner John Wingfield (Team Signum) took second while Tom Thornely (Buxton CC) finished third (3-34-15).
Despite losing his individual competition record Adam Duggleby joined Vive Le Velo team-mate Darren Yarwood to shave over 30 seconds off the men’s tandem record to set a new mark of 3-17-51.
Completing the hat-trick of competition records in the same event were Becky and Howard Lewis (Mid Shropshire Wheelers) who set a new mixed tandem mark of 3-30-02.
Meanwhile, Kimberley Morrison beat Drag2Zero team-mate Vicky Gill by just six seconds to win the women’s event in 3-44-06.
The previous Duggleby teamed up with Paralympic partner Steve Bate in the Burton and District CA 50 to set a new national tandem record of 1-28-23.
Individual honours were clinched by Jonathan Shubert (Arctic Aircon RT) who posted a winning time of 1-37-55 which beat Lee Tunnicliffe (South Normanton) by 56 seconds while long distance specialist Mark Turnbull (TORQ Performance) competed the podium in 1-39-15.
The women’s event was won by Karen Ledger who sneaked into the top 10 overall with her time of 1-47-08.
Two further competition records were broken at the a3crg 30 in Hampshire, with Rachael Elliott (Newbury RC) and Ian Greenstreet (AeroCoach) setting a new mixed tandem mark of 57-19.
Chris Holmes (Twickenham CC) took a well-deserved victory in the men’s competition finishing in a time of 58-15.
Kevin Tye (VeloRefined Aerosmiths) finished second just 24 seconds back while Arthur Franklin (Portishead CC) completed the podium places in 59-04.
The women of host club a3cg put their names into the record books in the team category with Angela Carpenter, Kirsty McSeveney and Lucy Mitchell finishing with a combined time of 3-28-12.
Carpenter also took the individual honours clocking 1-05-31.
Jack Levick (Rose RT) had a double winning weekend with men’s victories in events on Saturday and Sunday.
After finishing seventh at the National Team Time Trial Championship earlier in the year Levick was on fine form firstly winning the Warrington RC 25.
His time of 52-17 took him to a clear victory beating Richard Bott (Team Aspire) into second by over a minute and a half while Dave Walker (Weaver Valley CC) completed the podium places a further minute back.
Keri Parton (Pro Vision Cycle Clothing) was quickest woman in a time of 59-54.
The following day Levick travelled to Lincolnshire and again took top spot in the Sleaford Wheelers 25.
Despite his efforts the previous day Levick went even faster to win the event in 51-39.
He needed to go faster than the previous day as Rose RT team-mate Billy Jarish pushed him all the way but eventually finished second 22 seconds.
It was a golden day for Rose RT as they completed a one-two-three with George Thompson taking third in 53-53.
Louise Ryde (Team Swift) was quickest woman finishing her effort in 1-03-03.
