Photo: The East Surrey Hardriders has attracted almost a hundred hardy souls for Sunday’s 29.9-mile event, and is one of several time trials taking place across the country with challenging courses.
Now run by Dorking CC, the event is split into a road bike event and a time trial event, with 40 taking part on a road machine while 54 will tackle the time trial event over the same course.
The winner in 2018, Liam Maybank (Twickenham CC) is the last man off, while just before him is Mark Smith (Crawley Wheelers) who won last weekend’s Sussex CA event. Others to watch include the in-form Paul Burton (Paceline RT) who has won some winter criteriums over the last few months.
Maybank’s team-mate and last year’s winner Chris Holmes (Twickenham CC) is also down to ride, as is 2019 third-placed rider Dan Pullen (Lindfield Coffee Works).
Of the women, 2018 winner Angela Carpenter (a3crg) looks likely to be challenging for the win again. Second in the road bike event last year, Gareth Thomas (Paceline RT) returns in 2020.
Elsewhere, the North Lancs RC hilly 30-mile event near Pendleton has a quality field including Richard Bideau (Pendle Forest CC), Alex Royle (Manchester BC) and Paul Fleming (Preston Wheelers), while Christina Wiejak (Jadan CycleSpace) looks likely to take the women’s prize.
Maidenhead and District CC are holding a 29.5-mile event near Freith in Buckinghamshire, with Felix Wilkinson (Fulfil the Potential Racing) is last man off. He was second in the Severn RC hardriders 25 two weeks ago, so will be looking to go one better.
In Cornwall Saint Piran are staging a 10-mile event near Tresillian on Sunday. Last man off is Tom Nancarrow, the Nopinz Symec Race Team rider who won the Primavera Road Race two weeks ago and was fourth in the National Hill-Climb Championships last year.
And in the women’s category Stacey Ginieres (Penzance Wheelers) will be looking to repeat the victory she secured in the City Cycle Couriers 10 last weekend.
In Suffolk Lloyd Chapman (Loose Cannon’s Conditioning) is a favourite to win the Sudbury CC 22 near Lavenham on Sunday, while other events that day include the Leicestershire RC 10.
Saturday’s calendar is also quite full, with nine time trials taking place.
Chapman is down to ride on Saturday too, in the CC Breckland 10 near Hingham in Norfolk, where Daniel Bloy (Team Velovelocity) is also in contention for the win.
The West Pennine RC hilly 14.6-mile event in Lancashire has attracted 70 riders, including multiple national champion Hayley Simmonds (AeroCoach).
Wrekinsport CC are putting on their annual 18-mile event near Worfield in Shropshire, while the Gillingham & District Wheelers 19 in Somerset will see 44 riders tackle the testing U303 course near Bruton.
There are also a couple of two-up events with Burton and District CA holding a 30km event in Leicestershire while Sheffrec CC are staging a 25-mile two-up near hatfield Woodhouse in South Yorkshire.
And just for variety, City Road Club (Hull) in East Yorkshire are putting on a three-up 25 near Beverley.
Full startsheets from these and other events are available on the CTT website. Remember to keep checking back to the CTT website over the weekend for reports and results.
