Graves suffered his first defeat of the season with third place came in the Burton & District CA's 25-mile test which was won by Andy Jackson (SSLL RT) with a 47-46 from Steve Irwin (North Lancs RC), 48-17, and Graves, one second behind Irwin. The Women's event was taken by Karen Ledger (Langsett Cycles), 56-00, ahead of Jasmijn Muller (Born to Bike-Bridgtown Cycles), 56-57, and her team mate Katja Rietdorf, 58-50.
MORE FOR ROBSON AND GRAVES
Both Dean Robson (Nopinz) and Philip Graves (Clifton CC York) added to their 2016 tally of wins at the weekend, although Graves had to settle for a third place in one event.
Robson galloped away with the Bath CC Hardriders Hilly `24`, a 56-49 leaving him with a 1-41 winning margin. David Janes (VC Walcot) and Matthew Griffiths (Cycology Bikes) filled second and third while Jenny Lee (Yeovil CC) took another award as fastest woman,
Graves success came in the Stockport Wheelers 23-mile time trial with a 50-08 where his nearest rivals were Keith Murray (drag2zero) and Mark Flannery (Team Swift) while Anna Turvey (Tyneside Vagabonds) was best woman, her 56-08 giving her 11th spot overall.
SIMMONDS UNI CHAMPION
Cambridge University CC promoted the BUCS Championship `10` so it was fitting that Cambridge student Hayley Simmonds, the UnitedHealthCare professional, should take the honours, a 22-09 giving her 1-35 in hand over Sophie Household (Surrey) with Molly Patch (Birmingham) a further 33 seconds adrift of Simmonds. Bath University's William Bromley came out on top in the Men's event with a 19-54 with Matthew Woods (Loughborough) and Jack O'Neil (Warwick) filling second and third with their respective 20-28 and 20-46.
FAMILY 1-2
The Bedfordshire Roads CC `25` saw a family double with the TMG-Horizon RT's Clarke's Ross and Luke taking the first two places, Ross clocked 52-49, Luke 53-18. Debbie Vanner (North Bucks RC) was first of the women with her 1-08-42.
28 MPH FOR SHARP
A 28mph performance earned Richard Sharp (York Cycleworks) top spot on the leader board in the Ravensthorpe CC `10`, his 21-15 just 12 seconds faster than Mark Thaxter (HD Revolution), second. The Woman's award went to Nikola Matthews (Boot out Breast Cancer) from Alex Deck (Langsett Cycles) but that was closer still just five second between them, Matthews on 24-52. The Medium Gear version fell to Chris Myhill (Peak RC) with a 24-17.
The Kings Lynn CC 2-Up `25` saw the promoting club's Matt Senter team up with James Senter (Peterborough CC) to win with a 58-09 while Daniel Bloy (Velovelocity) returned a winning 55-49 in the Solo `25`. Kent Valley RC 30-mile SPOCO time trial showed Simon Bridge (Manchester BC) on good form as he covered the distance in 1-08-32. Derek Parkinson (Springfield Financial), 1-09-23, and Stephen Ayres (Bronte Wheelers), 1-09-45, followed on. Vanessa Whitfield (The Racing Chance Foundation) got around in 1-26-05, fastest woman.
RECORD FOR AXFORD
Danny Axford (Arctic-Tacx RT) flew over the 36 miles of the Oxonian CC promotion to set a course record 1-24-27 to win by 6-44 from Dave Dent (Offshore RT). John Dewey (Team Bottrill) showed a clean pair of heels to the opposition in the Kingston Phoenix CC `10`, his 20-05 beating the 20-59s of Robert Moore (Nuun-Sigma Sport London) and Liam Maybank (Twickenham CC), equal second. Mel Wasley (SSLL RT) was best of the women with her 22-58.
SWITCH FOR STEDMAN
