Photo: Current and former hill-climb champions are in action this weekend as the 2019 season continues with some classic events across the country.
The iconic Cat n Fiddle climb in Cheshire has attracted a strong field of riders who will tackle the 6.3-mile climb from Macclesfield.
2016 national champion Adam Kenway (Vitus Pro Cycling) is down to ride, as is 2014 and 2017 champion Dan Evans (ASSOS Equipe UK). 2015 hill-climb champion and 2016 National 10 champion Richard Bussell (AeroCoach) could be one to watch too, while other top male riders include pro road rider and reigning Welsh hill-climb champion Ed Laverack.
The women’s field includes Jess Evans (ASSOS Equipe UK) as well as Sarah Lewthwaite (Team Sportslab).
Reigning women’s national champion Fiona Burnie (GS Metro) is last rider off at her own club’s climb on Hedley-on-the-Hill, while others tackling the 1.1-mile climb include Hannah Farran (Team Boompods), while in the men’s event the top three from last year Thomas Prentice (Ribble Pro Cycling), Colin Atkinson (Muckle CC) and Jamie Johnson (Barnesbury CC) all return.
In Derbyshire the grounds of Hardwick Hall are the location for the 615-metre climb staged by Bolsover and District CC on Sunday.
Top names due to ride this event include Calum Brown, Andy Nichols and Rick Bailey from B38-Cycles in Motion, as well as Maddie Gammons (Liv AWOL) and Yasmin Marks (Beeston CC).
3RT are promoting a climb on the service road for Scammonden Dam on Sunday, with the 566-metre climb climbing 63 metres up.
The large field includes Calum Brown and Rick Bailey from Team B38-Cycles in Motion, as well as road rider Rebecca Richardson (Brother.UK Fusion).
Reigning national champion Andrew Feather (Champion System UK) tackles the Beacon Wheelers climb on Great Dun Fell on Saturday along with Dan Evans (ASSOS Equipe UK), while on Sunday Feather heads to Somerset to ride the Salt and Sham climb on Chew Hill.
His rivals there include Josh Coyne (BPM Coaching), Glyndwr Griffiths (73 Degrees Bicycles) as well as Joe Norledge (Bristol South CC).
Of the women Nicole Coates (Performance Cycles) will want to build on the two wins she secured last weekend, while her rivals at Chew Hill include Joanne Jago (Performance Cycles).
And in time trialling, the Croft circuit near Darlington hosts the final of the National Youth Championship, with the top qualifying riders from all the regional heats will be in action on the ten mile course.
Full startsheets from these and other events are available on the CTT website. Remember to keep checking back to the CTT website over the weekend for reports and results.
