Photo: American pro rider Leah Thomas powered to victory in the Sherwood CC 25 on Sunday, as she continued her preparations for the World Championships next month.
The 30-year-old who rides for Biglas Pro Cycling Team clocked 50-42 to place third overall and smash the women’s course record by more than a minute.
Meanwhile, overall victory in the A25/34 in Nottinghamshire went to former national champion Matt Bottrill (Team Bottrill) with 49-21.
Elsewhere, Adam Wild took the overall win to cap a strong day for GS Metro riders at the Barnesbury CC 10 on Sunday.
The 22-year-old from Morpeth clocked 19-09 for the new course to set a challenging course record and take the win by 47 seconds from Tom Hutchinson (Team Kirkley Cycles).
Meanwhile, national hill-climb champion Fiona Burnie set a good women’s record for the course at Cramlington with a time of 23-05 which gave her the win on the day by 11 seconds from Gemma Frost (Team Swift).
Changeable weather forecasts led to several non-starters at the Realteam.co.uk 25-mile event in South Wales, on the fast R25/3h course at Rhigos on Sunday.
33 riders were marked as DNS on the results sheet – but they might’ve had a second thought as 35 of the riders who did take part posted personal best times!
Fastest was Henry Latimer (Didcot Phoenix CC) with 48-10, a winning margin of 1-24 over Alex Royle (Manchester BC), while in the women’s event Stephanie Post (Team Bottrill) was quickest with 52-01 after pre-race favourite Alice Lethbridge (Drag2zero) punctured and didn’t finish.
There were some impressive performances in the West Cheshire TTCA and Lancashire TTCA 12-hour event in Shropshire on Sunday, with the pick of the bunch being Ben Norbury (Congleton CC) who covered 282.68 miles to win by 1.5 miles from Andrew Whiteside (Bella in Sella Racing). Jill Wilkinson (Chester RC) was best of the women with 240.95 miles.
In North Yorkshire Mark Flannery (Team Swift) was fastest in the Cleveland Wheelers 10 near Stokesley, clocking 21-47 to win by 18 seconds from Marcel Schubert (Darlington CC) and Aaron Preston (Cleveland Wheelers) who both clocked 22-05 to share second prize.
Louise Hamilton (Mountain Goat Coaching) was quickest female with 26-46, while the road bike category was won by Prima Team Racing’s Robert Noble in 23-42.
Ribble Pro Cycling’s Simon Wilson and Rebecca Rimmington (Team Merlin) both broke course records on their way to victories in the Wigan Wheelers 30 near Levens, Cumbria, on Sunday.
Wilson clocked 59-34 and was the only rider under the hour, while Rimmington covered the L308 course in 1-10-54.
Wigan Wheelers also held a 10-mile event the night before, with Shaun Inglis (Hawick CC) clocking exactly 20 minutes to win by 50 seconds, while Crystal Lane (Glossop Kinder Velo) was fastest female in 21-54.
And the Cambridge CC held a 15-mile event on Saturday, which was won by John Wingfield (Team Signum) in 27-53, while quickest female rider was Jennifer Millmore (Islington CC) in 32-47.
The event also had a tandem category, which saw another speedy performance from Rachael Elliott (Newbury RC) and Ian Greenstreet (AeroCoach0 who clocked 28-23.
