Photo: A mixture of hot temperatures and strong winds did little to dent times at events across the country, with the National 50-Mile Championship leading the way last weekend.
Pre-race favourites Marcin Bialoblocki (NOPINZ) and Emma Lewis (The Independent Pedaler) were crowned 2019 champions at the title race in Wales.
The Polish ace clocking 1-36-23 to win by 3-18 from Lewis’s team-mate Chris Fennell, while Lewis covered the course in 1-51-31 and was almost six minutes ahead of the Drag2zero trio led by Alice Lethbridge in second.
“I’m very happy, it all went perfectly,” said Bialoblocki. Meanwhile, Lewis added: “I’m really proud to have won by the margin I have because the other girls are such seasoned riders over this distance.”

Elsewhere, Tim Chilvers (Maldon and District CC) was fastest at the Southend Wheelers 50 in Essex. He clocked 1-52-59 to set a new personal best and win the event by around two and a half minutes, despite strong winds.
And the fastest female was Louise Robinson (Essex Roads CC), her time of 2-14-11 giving her the win by more than ten minutes.
Howard Bayley and Lisa Davis claimed the top prize at the Sussex CA 50 Championship which took place near West Grinstead in West Sussex on Sunday morning.
Bayley (Blazing Saddles) covered the course in 1-52-01, while Davis’s winning time was 2-09-53.
In Shropshire, Joseph Dobson (Manchester BC) was victorious in the Jack McAllister Memorial 25 promoted by Birkenhead North End CC on Sunday.
It was win number two for the weekend for Dobson, who had also proved fastest in the previous day’s Manchester and District LCA 10.
Dobson clocked 53-51 for the 25 at Prees, enough to take the win by just ten seconds from Ian Lawton (Mersey Tri), while quickest of the women was Deb Hutson-Lumb (Nova Raiders) with 1-01-07.
It was also a close run thing in Saturday’s VC Cumbria 25 near Cockermouth in Cumbria, with Richard Bickley (Border City Wheelers) covering the course in 50-32 and winning by just six seconds from Andrew Whiteside (Bella in Sella Racing). Meanwhile, Charlotte Boothman was quickest woman in 57-00.
In Norfolk there were some fast times in the East District CA 10, where the only rider to go under the 20-minute mark was Lloyd Chapman (Plomesgate CC) with 19-46, winning by 55 seconds from Nick Partridge (VC Baracchi).
Cindy Berry (DAP CC) was fastest of the women in 23-44, and there was an impressive performance from 16-year-old Jack Watts (Team Pedal Revolution) who set a time of 22-06 on a road bike with clip-on tri bars to win the junior category.
Chris Smart was fastest while Kerry Gowland was crowned top woman at the Teesside District 25-mile Championships staged by Cleveland Coureurs near Crathorne in North Yorkshire on Sunday morning.
Smart (GTR-Return to Life) clocked 50-56 which made him fastest man by almost two and a half minutes, while Gowland set a time of 1-02-38 to win the women’s event by over four minutes.
