Photo: After his win in the Hounslow 100 last weekend, in-form Mark Smith (Crawley Wheelers) tackles the Southern Counties CU 50-mile time trial this Sunday in search of his eighth open victory of the season so far.
The 45-year-old from Lindfield in West Sussex has already won SCCU events this season over 10 and 25 miles, and will be going all out to add to his tally.
Others who could challenge him for the podium include Dan Pullen (N+1 Lindfield Coffee Works) and Pat Wright (Paceline RT).
Over the same distance Maldon and District CC are holding an event on Sunday, with former national competition record holder Paul Hart (Southend Wheelers) is the last man off.
The Godric CC are also staging a 50-mile event on Sunday near Broome in Norfolk, while in Nottinghamshire the National Clarion Championship is being held by Nottingham Clarion. In-form Andy Jackson (AeroCoach) and Karen Ledger (Ace Test Team) are likely to feature high up the results board.
Hundreds of riders will be hoping for good conditions on Sunday for the Sportzmad 25-mile event on the fast R25/3h course near Rhigos in South Wales.
Competition record holder Marcin Bialoblocki (NOPINZ) is the last man off, while others to watch out for include Chris Fennell (The Independent Pedaler), whose team-mate Emma Lewis is going for victory in the women’s event.
Vicky Gill (Drag2zero) will be going for the win too, while in other categories brothers Josh and Finlay Tarling (Team Backstedt Bike Performance) will be going for PB performances.
In East Yorkshire, the Team Swift 10 has attracted a varied field, with the oldest competitor being 84-year-old Mickie Hornby and the youngest 62 years younger, with Evie Turner (Holmfirth CC) being just 12 years old.
At the other end of the field for the event near Gilberdyke Joe Laverick (Madison Genesis) is one to watch.
There’s another big field heading for the L1015 course at Levens in Cumbria, with Nelson Wheelers promoting this Saturday evening event.
Craig Horseman (Beacon Wheelers) is last man off, but there’s plenty of talent before him including Scott Burns (Drag2Zero), Harry Walker (Revolver Racing, Derek Parkinson (Springfield Financial), while junior Sam Murray (Drag2Zero) will be pushing to break the 20-minute barrier for the first time and could also challenge for a top five spot.
In Leicestershire the Royal Sutton CC are holding a 10-mile event on Sunday near Thurlaston. Jonathan Wears (CES Sport) is the last man off, while others to watch include Richard Jennings (Army Cycling) and Race Rapid team-mates David Mead and David Kiernan.
The A3 near Greatham in Hampshire is the location for the Portsmouth North End CC’s 25-mile event on Sunday. Heading between Liss and Liphook, the event has attracted a full field of 120 riders including James Rix (Team Bottrill) and Liam Maybank (Twickenham CC).
The Bossard Wheelers 25 at Tempsford in Bedfordshire has attracted high calibre riders such as Emily Robertson, the Nopinz rider who was second in the National 50 and third in the National 25 Championships in 2014.
Last man off is Chris Bartley (AS Test Team) who will be chasing an impressive PB of 46-08 set earlier this season.
