Photo: Adam Wild (GS Metro) and Kelly Murphy (Storey Racing) drew first blood in the Sigma Sports Classic Time Trial Series, as the Wessex Road Club staged round one in Dorset on Sunday.
Wild clocked 49-44 for the 24-mile hilly course, the 21-year-old Edinburgh University medicine student from Newcastle proving fastest by just four seconds from Phil Williams (Liverpool Phoenix CC), while Murphy covered the course in 58-04 to win by 31 seconds from a3crg veteran Angela Carpenter.
In other categories Jonathan Gates (RAF CA) was quickest veteran in 51-44, while Fabien Large (NOPINZ) was fastest junior boy in 54-38 and Caitlin Peters (Storey Racing) was best junior girl in 1-00-22. And the paracyclists prize went to Graeme Church (Team Milton Keynes) in 1-26-40.
Elsewhere, Pat Wright (Paceline RT) won both events promoted by the Southern Counties CU over the weekend.
He clocked 21-55 to win Saturday’s 10-mile event near Oakwoodhill in Surrey, while Victoria Smith (AeroCoach) was fastest female.
And then in Sunday’s 25-mile event on similar roads, he covered the course in 55-36, while Angela Radden-Rutt (Jam Cycling) was fastest female.
Seb Dickson (Cambridge Univ CC) took the honours in the Medway Velo Club’s 21.9-mile event in Kent on Sunday, clocking 49-30 to be the only rider under 50 minutes, with Nic Fennell (Thanet RC) being the runner-up, while Sally Smith (Medway Velo Club) was the fastest female in a time of 1-09-48.
In County Durham, national hill-climb champion Fiona Burnie (GS Metro) was fastest female in the Teesdale CRC sporting 21-mile event near Staindrop, while Shaun Tyson (Ribble Pro Cycling) was fastest male.
Burnie, 34, clocked exactly 57 minutes while Tyson covered the challenging course in 47-27 while Michael Smart (TS Racing Team) was second.
Arctic Tacx rider Josh Crow-Stewart clocked 50-01 for the F11/22 course near Gaddesden in Hertfordshire, winning the Hemel Hempstead CC 22 by just one second from the promoting club’s Ben Stowe.
And in the women’s category, Helen Reynolds (Hemel Hempstead CC) was fastest with 58-33, almost four minutes clear of teenaged runner-up Lauren Higham (Welwyn Wheelers).
Jasmin Bowyer was fastest female as pro rider Scott Davies powered to overall victory in the Cardiff Ajax 10-mile time trial on Saturday.
Bowyer, the 25-year-old from Llanelli who rides for Bynea Cycling Club, covered the course near Abercarn in 25-08 to win the women’s prize by 2-08 from veteran Cardiff Ajax CC rider Helen Priest.
And Davies – the 23-year-old Team Dimension Data professional rider who comes from Carmarthen – clocked 19-23 to win the overall prize by seven seconds from Ioan Smallwood (Cardiff Ajax CC).
