Photo: Spring is in the air, and as if they knew the exact date we have hundreds of time triallists turning out at one of six events across the country this weekend.
Several riders who tackled last weekend’s Kingston Wheelers sporting 13.6-mile event last weekend are in action again this Sunday at the Redhill CC sporting 18-mile event to the south west of Dorking.
Second in the Kingston Wheelers TT, Liam Maybank (Twickenham CC) has entered the Redhill CC event 12 months after he was forced to abandon with a mechanical problem, while last year’s runner-up Thomas Whatley (Paceline RT) will compete at Redhill again, a week after helping Paceline secure the team prize at the Kingston event.
The other two members of the Paceline team at the Kingston Wheelers event last weekend, Pat Wright and Andrew Bradbury are both down to ride again in Surrey on Sunday and could well secure the team prize again alongside Whatley.
Other riders to keep an eye out for include Ben Elliott (C and N Cycles) who was third in the Kingston Wheelers as well as Neil Lauder (Arctic Tacx RT).
A large field of 110 riders are down to take part in the Frome and District Wheelers 10-mile event near Frome on Sunday.
A prolific winner of time trials last season, David Janes (Wheels of Dorset) will be hoping for better luck than 12 months ago when he was a non—finisher in the Frome event which uses the U375 course near Nunney in Somerset.
Janes is the last rider off, while others to watch out for include last year’s winner Dan Martin (University of Bath CC) and runner-up Rob Pears (Bath CC).
None of last year’s women’s top three are riding this time, but 11 others will be vying for that prize.
In Hampshire, VC St Raphael are promoting a 16.5-mile sporting time trial near Southwick, where more than 100 riders are taking part across both an event for those with road bikes and those with a TT bike.
In the time trial event last year’s winner Chris McNamara (Nuun-Sigma Sport) is among the favourites, while other names who could challenge for a podium include 2018 third-placed rider Gary Chambers (NOPINZ) as well as Charles Mitchell (a3crg).
In the women’s event Sarah Matthews (a3crg) will be aiming to go one better than last year’s second spot, while her team-mate Kirsty McSeveney who was third last year also competes.
In Scotland Fullarton Wheelers CC are promoting a 10-mile time trial for tandems and two-ups on Sunday at Irvine, while City Cycle Couriers RT stage a 10-mile event near Buckfastleigh in Devon.
And on Saturday, Coalville Wheelers have a field of 56 riders for their 10-mile time trial near Osgathorpe in Leicestershire.
Full startsheets from all the above events are available on the CTT website, and remember to keep checking back to the CTT website over the weekend for reports and results.
