Photo: Marcin Bialoblocki and Anna Turvey were crowned winners at the National 50-Mile Time Trial Championship in Leicestershire on Saturday after putting in some impressive performances in the title race on the A50/13 course near Thrussington.
34-year-old Somerset-based Bialoblocki posted the second fastest time ever recorded in 1-333-38, leaving his rivals in his wake, with second-placed Chris Bartley (AS Test Team) around 3-40 slower.
And Turvey added the 50-mile women’s title to her 10-mile crown with a time of 1-49-49 to win by 1-10 from Emma Lewis (The Independent Pedaler).
Elsewhere, Colin Ward (Essex Roads CC) set a new course record time of 1-01-27 in the Lea Valley CC 30 at Ugley in Essex, giving him the win over Richard Price (London Phoenix), while the fastest female was Katie Ann Ellison (Southend Wheelers).
In Cornwall, the Giant Helston four-up 25 near Lanivet was won by the Mid-Devon CC quartet of Andrew Perkins, Ian Cullen, Donald Brooks and Lee Sanderson with a time of 51-37, which was just short of a minute quicker than their nearest rivals from Lanhydrock Wheelers.
Hill-climbers continued to build up to the national championships in four weeks.
In South Yorkshire, the Stocksbridge CC event on Pea Royd Lane was a warm-up for the title race, with the 860-yard course recently named as the new venue for the national championships.
Joe Clark (Cycling Sheffield-Giant) was fastest with 2-24.5, but only just – Andy Nichols (Team B38-Underpin Racing) was only 0.4 seconds slower in second, while third spot went to Leon Wright (Race Hub) who was another 0.2 seconds back.
Fiona Burnie (GS Metro) won the women’s prize with 3-12.7.
Wigmore CC staged a hill-climb on Hollingbourne Hill in Kent over 1,200 yards, and it was Seb Dickson (Cambridge Univ CC) who won in 3-03.9, a margin of victory of 1.9 seconds from James Hayward (Woolwich CC), while fastest female was Jacintha Hamilton-Love (Dulwich Paragon CC).
On the one-mile Knights Hill near Goodwood it was Joe Parker from the promoting Blazing Saddles CC that took the win, his time of 3-15.8 giving him the victory by 4.4 seconds from Richard Cartland (South Downs Bikes) while Kirsty Mcseveney (Fareham Wheelers) was fastest female.
In the North East, Peter Hook (VC York) won the Cleveland Wheelers climb on Clay Bank near Helmsley, while Hannah Farran (Boompods EDCO) was fastest female.
Also on Sunday, Sunderland Clarion held a two-stage event on Haggs Lane in Silverhills and Kibblesworth Bank, and it was Zeb Kyffin (Ribble Pro Cycling) and Joanne Rea (Blaydon CC) who were victorious on both climbs as well as overall.
The previous day, Kyffin had also been the winner of Cestria CC’s climb of Peth Bank near Lanchester, while Sarah Wilkinson (Cestria CC) was fastest female on that occasion.
Also on Saturday, Lincoln Wheelers held a climb on Sleaford Road in Leadenham, and it was Ben Harmer (Wold Top Actif RT) who won, his time of 2-07.4 being 4.9 seconds fastest than James Gelsthorpe (Velo-One CT), while Joanne Johnson (Lincoln Wheelers) was fastest female in 3-42.4, giving her the win by 2.3 seconds from Annabel Vella (Sitwell CC).
