Photo: Anna Turvey and John Archibald raced to victory in the senior National 10-Mile Championships staged in Scotland last weekend.
Archibald (Ribble Pro Cycling) clocked 18-18 to take the individual victory on Sunday and also joined with Si Wilson and reigning champion Dan Bigham to take the team prize too.
Turvey (Tyneside Vagabonds CC) covered the course near Irvine in 20-26 to win the women’s title on Saturday, while the junior titles went to Joshua Sandman (Team Backstedt) and Elynor Backstedt (Backstedt-Hotchillee).
See the individual event reports for more details and interviews with all the winners.
While Turvey was winning the National 10, her club Tyneside Vagabonds staged the North East 100-Mile Championship in Northumberland, where Thomas Hutchinson and Joanne Rea were the winners.
22-year-old Hutchinson clocked 4-02-26 to take the win by more than five minutes in his first 100-mile event, while second spot went to Richard Sharp (Team Swift) with 4-07-46.
And in the women’s race 30-year-old Blaydon CC rider Rea clocked 4-47-25 in what was also her first 100-mile race. She was 2-41 quicker than second-placed female and Blaydon CC team-mate Gemma Hutchins.
The Welsh 100-Mile Championships saw Kieron Davies (Drag2Zero) and Vicky Jowett (Plymouth Corinthian CC) make the most of good conditions to clinch personal bests and Welsh competition records.
31-year-old Davies targeted the event to improve his BAR standing and did so with a winning ride of 3-20-17, while in the women’s event Jowett took an emphatic victory by over four minutes with a winning time of 4-06-37.
Elsewhere, Adam Duggleby (Vive Le Velo) and Karen Ledger (Team Bottrill/Vanguard) were the fastest riders once again as they battled against hot conditions to win the men’s and women’s categories in the Burton & District DCA 100.
33-year-old Duggleby clocked 3-29-36, which was 3-40 quicker than runner-up Richard Bickley (Border City Wheelers). Ledger took the women’s win with a time of 3-55-50.
In Cheshire, Lucy Rogers and Mark Turnbull emerged victorious at the Cheshire Roads Club 50 near Goostrey on Saturday. Turnbull’s time was 1-48-28, while Rogers clocked 2-15-42.
And in Sunday’s Chester Road Club 50, victory went to Graham Kemp (Team Bottrill) and Kate Giddings (Liverpool Century RC).
Kemp’s time of 1-46-48 was more than four minutes quicker than second-placed Derek Parkinson (Springfield Financial), while Giddings won the women’s event by exactly two minutes, her time of 2-05-29 giving her the win over Deb Hutson-Lumb.
James Chapman and Suzy Patience finish top male and female in the Banbury Star CC 10-mile time trial on Saturday with times of 21-04 and 24-53 respectively.
And in Surrey, Chris Bartley (AS Test Team) continued his emphatic season by taking another victory in the Charlotteville CC 10 while veteran Jo Buckland (Bush Healthcare CRT) took the women’s event win.
Jo Smith and Nic Fennell emerged victorious in the Thanet Road Club 10 in Kent on Sunday. Smith clocked 23-00 while Fennell covered the course near Reculver in 19-29.
