Photo: Pre-race favourites Marcin Bialoblocki (NOPINZ) and Hayley Simmonds (Team WNT Pro Cycling) both stormed to convincing victories in the National 25-Mile Championship last weekend – and both then headed up to Glasgow to take part in the European Championships.
Bialoblocki clocked 44-22 and was fastest by almost two minutes in a strong display on Sunday, with
Matt Langworthy (St Piran) and Chris Bartley (AS Test Team) tied for second spot.
And in the women’s title race on Saturday, Simmonds covered the course in 50-05 to win by 33 seconds from National Closed Circuit Champion Emma Lewis (The Independent Pedaler).
In Norfolk, Chanel Mason and Harry Tanfield powered to sizeable victories in the Kings Lynn CC 25-mile time trial on Saturday.
Pro rider Tanfield (Cleveland Wheelers) clocked 50-15 to win by more than three and a half minutes from Matt Senter (Team Velovelocity), while Chanel Mason (Storey Racing) covered the course in 59-14, the only woman to go under the hour mark and more than five minutes quicker than her nearest rival.
Richard Bickley won the VC Cumbria 50 on Saturday in what was a very keenly contested event, with Katie Lukas winning the women’s category.
Bickley clocked 1-42-18 to win by just 32 seconds from Philip Jones (Transition RT), while Beacon Wheelers rider Lukas clocked 1-57-05.
Also over 50 miles, the Oxonian CC event was won by Tim Cartwright (Newbury RC) in 1-42-04, while Oliver Mytton (Verulam CC) was more than six minutes off the pace in second. Christina Murray (Army CU) was fastest female in 2-05-16.
And in Northumberland Team Swift pair of Gemma Frost and Lewis Timmins finish top man and woman in the South Shields Velo CC 50-mile event on Sunday.
Timmins produced a time of 1-48-55 to take victory by just over a minute ahead of 22-year-old Thomas Hutchinson (Tyneside Vagabonds CC).
And Gemma Frost made it into double figures in wins with the 2-05-12 ride, and what better way to do it than with her partner, Timmins, sharing the podium.
In Cheshire, Alex Jones (Rhyl CC) was the winner of the Congleton CC 50 near Goostrey. His time of 1-45-55 was almost five minutes quicker than his nearest rival Ben Norbury (Congleton CC), while Sarah Grant (Vision Racing) was best of the women with 2-08-14.
Elsewhere, Simon Norman (Bedfordshire Roads RT) scored back-to-back wins with his latest victory, a 25-mile win in his home club event. Fenland Clarion’s Lindsay Clarke scooped the women’s prize.
And in Scotland Alan Thomson (RT23) clocked 50-45 to win the Glasgow Green CC 25 near Westferry, beating Robert Friel (Bipracer-Project GO) into second by 19 seconds, while Lynsey Curran (Dooley’s RT) was fastest female with 58-10.
And the Shropshire CCA four-up 50km time trial was won by the RAF CA quarter of Daniel Watts, Matt Garthwaite, Antony Richardson and Ryan Morley, who clocked 1-02-30 to win by more than five minutes.
