Photo: Christopher Fennell (The Independent Pedaler) clinched the course record in the Kent CA 50 knocking two minutes off his previous mark while Pip Jenkins (Southborough & Dist Wheelers) also bettered her record.
Fennell, 22, has been in emphatic form so far this season taking a host of wins. Ideal conditions on the Kent coast led to some fast times with Fennell winning in a personal best time of one hour, 41 minutes and 22 seconds.
His time was over two minutes faster than his previous Q50/11 course record of 1:43.36.
30-year-old Jenkins held the previous women’s course record in a time of 2:02.43 but bettered that by nine seconds to take the category victory in 2:02.34.
In Yorkshire, Kirsty Bramley and Richard Dean were celebrating victories in the Rockingham CC 25 on Saturday, staged near Boroughbridge.
Bramley, 43 and from York, covered the V235 course in 1-01-22 to give the Team Swift rider victory by almost eight minutes from second fastest female, Jo Short of Darlington CC.
And Richard Dean (Cyclomania) was the overall fastest, covering the course in 52-33 to take the win by just over two minutes from Team Swift veteran Mark Wolstenholme.
Gary Chambers (NOPINZ) continued his preparation for the National 25-Mile Championships with a clear victory in the Portsmouth North End 25 while Laura Bartlett (A3crg) won the women’s event.
Chambers, 32, from Fareham, took advantage of perfect conditions to clock a winning time of 48 minutes exactly on the course which uses parts of the Championship route.
35-year-old Bartlett, from Dunsfold in Surrey, continued to build the form which saw her finish 18th in the National 25-Mile Championships last season taking victory in 55.35.
In Lancashire, Scratch rider David Allonby (Springfield Financial RT) clinched victory in the Preston Wheelers 25 while Deborah Moss (Team Merlin) and Charlotte Boothman (ABC Centreville) shared the women’s honours.
Allonby made light work of the testing little drags the course provided clinching victory in a time of 53 minutes and 14 seconds.
The women’s event couldn’t have been closer with Moss and Boothman inseparable and both finishing in a winning time of one hour, one minute and five seconds.
Darren Maironis (Velotik Racing Team) made it two victories in a row in the Chester RC 25 in Shropshire, while Kate Giddings (Liverpool Century RC) took the women’s win.
Maironis covered the course in 52-25, while Giddings was victorious with 1-01-13.
Top Junior Thomas Prentice and in-form Gemma Frost were fastest male and female respectively at the Alnwick CC 13-mile time trial in Northumberland on Saturday.
GS Metro rider Prentice – who was celebrating his 17th birthday on Saturday – stormed around the M13 course near Embleton to take the win in a time of 27-04, 18 seconds faster than second-placed Thomas Hutchinson (Tyneside Vagabonds).
Gemma Frost covered the course in 30-23, giving her 19th spot overall and being fastest female by almost two minutes from Natalie Batey (Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service) with 32.16.
Frost was victorious the following day in the Blaydon CC 18 near Ponteland, clocking 43-12, while the fastest male was Danny Grieves (GS Metro) with 37-59, enough for victory despite slipping on a corner and crashing.
In Essex, David Harding and Lauren Kirchel were celebrating after securing victories in the Elite CC 10 on Saturday afternoon.
After taking a podium place in the ECCA 25-mile scratch championship last weekend, Chelmer CC’s David Harding took victory over 10 miles here at Leaden Roding in Essex on Saturday.
Kirchel (Chelmer CC) was fastest woman with 23.37, while Essex Road CC veteran Susan Triplow was second.
