Photo: Angela Carpenter (a3crg) and Gary Chambers (NOPINZ) both secured their first ever national series victories as Hampshire staged round two of the Knight Composites Classic Time Trial Series on Sunday.
Carpenter, 49 and from Chichester, covered the two-lap 17.8-mile course near Pilley in 43-43 to take the win by just seven seconds from Jessica Rhodes-Jones (Beacon RCC).
And 32-year-old Chambers was victorious in the men’s three-lap 26.7-mile event by 28 seconds, his time of 58-45 giving him victory over Rob Walker (Cambridge University CC).
Both riders – like many others in the field – had to avoid donkeys as the course twisted its way around scenic New Forest lanes, while Carpenter was also held up by a queue of cars as she approached the finish of the event promoted by 3C Cyclexperience.
In North Yorkshire, James Gullen (JLT Condor) set a new course record for the Circuit of the Dales, the 50-mile event promoted by the Nelson Wheelers.
His time of 1-55-38 gave the 28-year-old the win by exactly three minutes from GS Metro’s Carl Donaldson, while Rebecca Rimmington (Team Merlin) was fastest female with 2-23-22.
In Cambridgeshire there were many new personal best times set as Lea Valley CC staged their 25-mile time trial on the fast E2/25 course near Newmarket.
While it was tough on the way out, many riders reported phenomenal speeds on the return leg. Alice Lethbridge (DRAG2ZERO) clocked the ninth fastest time ever by a woman, winning that category by a good margin with a time of 51-03.
Fastest overall was David Langlands, the Team Bottrill-Vanguard rider who covered the course in 47-01 to beat team-mate Stuart Travis by 15 seconds.
In Surrey, there was a 1-2-3 for Paceline RT in the Pete Mitchell Memorial 10 staged by Kingston Phoenix Road Club at North Holmwood.
Pat Wright took the win with 20-10, while team-mates Andrew Bradbury and Ben Elliott were second and third respectively. Delia Beddis (Les Filles RT) was fastest female with 23-32.
In West Yorkshire, Jack Brown (Cambridge University CC) was the winner of the Yorkshire CF 10-mile time trial near Ferrybridge. He clocked 20-56 to take the win by 13 seconds from Richard Sharp (Team Swift) with Fiona Sharp (Team Swift) being the fastest woman with 24-52.
In Cheshire, there was a double for Team Bottrill-Vanguard with Gareth Pymm and Stephanie Post being fastest male and female riders at the Melton Olympic CC 25 at Farndon.
Pymm’s time of 49-53 gave him the win by 29 seconds from Nick Moore (uk featherflags), while Post clocked 55-35 to win the women’s category by almost eight minutes.
Alistair Golby (Cambridge University CC) was the winner of the Spalding CC 18 in Lincolnshire. He covered the course at Edenham in 40-07 to win by 1-20, while fastest of the women was Hannah Drewett (Pedalcover Insurance) with 46-59.
And in Kent, Chris Fennell (Independent Pedaler) won the West Kent RC 10 at Harrietsham with a time of 20-14, while Charmaine Pullen (Folkestone Velo) led a 1-2-3 in the women’s category with a time of 26-00.
