Talented junior female Pfeiffer Georgi and veteran Tony Chapman were fastest female and male riders respectively as Severn Road Club staged a 25-mile time trial on the U17 near Falfield in Gloucestershire on Sunday morning.
The 17-year-old Liv CC Halo Cycles rider – the reigning national junior 25-mile champion - clocked 1:02.49 to place third overall and finish as the fastest female by an impressive 4-57 from Joanne Jago (Performance Cycles).
Overall fastest was veteran Tony Chapman, the Frome and District Wheelers 46-year-old from Warminster in Wiltshire. His time of 58.51 was the only sub-hour time posted, and gave him the win by 34 seconds from Simon Ward (Bristol Road Club).
In Surrey, South Downs Bikes veteran Simon McNamara took top spot at the 18-mile Redhill CC time trial on Sunday by a margin of 1.05.
McNamara put some of the result down to luck – he had Liam Maybank down as favourite before the race but the Twickenham CC rider suffered a mechanical fault after about 10 miles, quashing his chances of the win.
Zoe Bartlett (Folkestone Velo Club) took the women’s prize with a time of 54.08. Lenka Vackova of Rapha CC completed in 57.48 – although that did include a two-minute late start penalty.
Andover Wheelers had the satisfaction of seeing one of their own riders on the top of the podium at their 24-mile event on Sunday, with Matthew Buckley being the fastest rider on the day.
Buckley’s time of 58.32 saw him claim the best time by a margin of 1.15, averaging at just under 25mph on the course that ran into the countryside near Ludgershall. Sarah Matthews of a3crg took the women’s prize with 1:09.59.
Sunday’s other schedules event, the popular North Road CC hardriders 25, was cancelled because of black ice on parts the course around Hertfordshire lanes.
In Cheshire George Evans and Sally Cunliffe were fastest male and female riders respectively as Chester Road Club staged their annual 14-mile early season time trial on Saturday afternoon.
Evans, the 20-year-old Team Bottrill-Vanguard rider from Wrexham, clocked 29.41 for the D14/2 near Broxton to win by almost two minutes from Chester Road Club’s own Tom Brazier, who was also second in the 2017 event. Third spot went to Philip Ellison (Thatto Cycles), another 14 seconds back.
Fastest woman was Sally Cunliffe (VC Melyd), the 2017 winner. The 61-year-old from Flintshire clocked 39.25 this time, more than two minutes quicker than her winning time from 12 months previously.
Josh Griffiths and Alice Earle were the male and female winners respectively at the Salt and Sham CC 10-mile time trial in Gloucestershire.
Bristol South CC rider Griffiths, 18 and from Bristol, clocked 22.51 to win by five seconds from Matt Burden (73 Degrees CC) with third spot going to Fred Carlton (Univ of Bristol CC) who was 31 seconds slower than Griffiths.
And Alice Earle (VeloVitesse-ALLCAP) won the women’s event, showing good early season form to clock 26-41, with Bethany Taylor (Salt and Sham CC) just over a minute behind and Annamarie Miles (Salt and Sham CC) completing the women's podium.
And in Lancashire, Croston Velo’s Tom Rigby was victorious in the Rossendale CC hilly 11-mile event near Bolton by Bowland, his time of 23.38 giving him the win by 45 seconds from Fraser Martin (Saint Piran), while Lauren Dolan (Team Breeze) was the fastest female in 26.41.
