Photo: Joanne Jago (Performance Cycles) celebrated her birthday in style last weekend, powering to victory in both the Team Tor 2000 and Bristol South CC hill-climbs on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
The 37-year-old from Bristol clocked 7:06.2 for the West Close Hill climb in Somerset, giving her victory in the women’s event by 31 seconds.
And she then went on to mark her birthday on Sunday by breaking her own course record for Burrington Combe as she once again proved to be the fastest female in Bristol South CC event.
Her time of 8:24.1 gave her the win by 32 seconds and lowered her record time from 2016 by 35.4 seconds.
In the men’s events, the Team Tor 2000 hill-climb was won by Andrew Feather (Bike Chain Ricci) who beat Joe Norledge (Bristol South CC) by 26 seconds with a time of 5:09.6.
But in the following day’s Bristol South climb, Norledge stepped up to the top of the podium, covering the course in 6:57.6 to win by 1.5 seconds from Phil Stonelake (Bristol RC).
In Yorkshire Kieran Savage (Team B38-Underpin Racing) matched Jago’s feat as he took two wins and a course record over the weekend – but he didn’t celebrate with birthday cake!
20 and from Leeds, Savage covered the Scotchman Lane climb in Batley in 2:38.6 to win by 3.2 seconds and set a new course record.
He then went on to win the Yorkshire Road Club climb of Cragg Vale at Mytholmroyd on Sunday, where his time of 16:09.9 gave him victory by around 20 seconds from Louis Szymanski (ABC Centreville).
Elsewhere, reigning national champion Adam Kenway (Raleigh GAC) completed his preparations for a title defence on Sunday as he took victory in the Belper BC climb of Holly Lane in Ambergate.
The 30-year-old from Belper was last man off, clocking 3:21.8 to steal the victory from Mike Morris by 1.8 seconds. Jessica Denman (Ilkeston CC) was fastest female, claiming victory in 5:36.2 by just eight tenths of a second.
In Northumberland, Zeb Kyffin and Gemma Frost were the winners as Muckle CC hosted their first ever hill-climb on Sunday morning.
Kyffin (GS Metro) clocked 3:45.1 to win by 5.6 seconds, while Frost (Muckle CC) won with a time of 5:05.1.
Richard Gildea (Didcot Phoenix) continued his prolific form this season with victory in the Oxford University CC hill-climb at Wytham Woods on Sunday, while Anabell Orenz (North Cotswold CC) was fastest female.
32-year-old Gildea’s time of 3:38 gave him the win by four seconds over Greg Fitzek (Cowley Road Condors) while Orenz clocked 4.45 to win by 11 seconds from Tamara Davenne (Oxford University CC).
And in one of the last time trials of the season, Pat Wright led a one-two for Paceline RT in the Brighton Mitre CC 25 at Steyning in West Sussex.
His time of 52.06 gave him the win by 2-20 from team-mate Keith Lea, while the fastest female on the G25/93 was runner turned cyclist Angela Carpenter (a3crg) who capped a great first season of competitive time trials with a time of 59.35.
