Photo: Dan Evans continued his great form with a series of hill-climbing victories over the weekend.
The ASSOS Equipe UK rider from Colwyn Bay in Wales was victorious in Saturday morning’s Huddersfield Star Wheelers climb at Jackson Bridge near Holmfirth, and then went on to win the nearby Holme Valley Wheelers climb of Holme Moss that afternoon.
Not content with just two wins, he then went on to win the Manchester Bicycle Club climb of Mow Cop on Sunday morning.
In the women’s events, Fiona Burnie (GS Metro) won the Huddersfield Star Wheelers climb, while Jess Evans (also ASSOS Equipe UK) was victorious in the Holme Valley Wheelers climb.
Elsewhere, reigning national champion Adam Kenway (Raleigh GAC) proved fastest in the Chesterfield Coureurs climb of Beeley Moor on Sunday, while Lizzy Banks (Storey Racing) broke the women’s course record on her way to a third consecutive victory in the women’s category.
Banks, 26 and from Sheffield, clocked 10:19.2 to slice five seconds from the old record, while Kenway won with 8:20.2.
The over-50 veterans record was broken by Chris Myhill (Peak RC), while the junior record was broken by Alex Raynard (Matlock CC) and the team record was broken by B38-Underpin Racing trio of Kieran Savage, Archie Cross and Rick Bailey.
All Terrain Cycles’ Andy Cunningham tasted victory on Nick O’Pendle, clocking 3:47.0 to win the North Lancashire RC climb on Sunday.
His time was nine seconds quicker than Jude Taylor (B38-Underpin Racing), while fastest female was Charlotte Gorman (Team Lusso) with 5:43.2.
Rowan Brackston (Imperial College CC) enjoyed two victories over the weekend, winning the East Sussex CA climb of Firle Bostal on Saturday morning before going on to win the Velopace climb of Church Street in Willingdon on Saturday afternoon.
And Joscelin Lowden (Lewes Wanderers CC) proved fastest in the women’s category on both Firle Bostal and Willingdon to continue her good recent form.
In Cumbria, Niall Paterson (VC Cumbria) won his club’s climb of Whinlatter near Braithwaite on Saturday, clocking 7.25 to win by 27 seconds from junior James Noonan (Hoppers Rollers).
And there was a tie in the women’s event with Paterson’s wife Susan Paterson (Honister 92) and Henrietta Colborne (Swabo Ladies) both covering the course in 9.28.
On Hinton Hill in Gloucestershire, Jacob Pilkington (VC Montpellier) was the winner of the Bath CC hill-climb, clocking 2.15 to win by 1.9 seconds from Charles Coleman (DRK Racing), while the fastest female was Hannah Slade (Chippenham & Dist Wh).
And Ross Fawcett (Pedal Power Ipswich) was quickest in the Essex Roads CC climb at South Woodham Ferrers in Essex, his time of 2:08.4 giving him the win by 1.1 seconds over Martin Smith.
Rebecca Johnson (XRT-Elmy Cycles) was quickest woman with 2:32.3, a good 20 seconds faster than runner-up Katie-Ann Elliston (Southend Wheelers).
