Photo: JAMES Gullen (JLT Condor) demonstrated his great form with two sensational victories in 10-mile time trials over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The 27-year-old clocked the second fastest time ever – 16.59 - as he won the Team Swift 10 on the V718 course in East Yorkshire, and it came 24 hours after he broke the course record in Scarborough Paragon’s 10 at Grindale.
His time trial performances have no doubt helped his selection for the Tour of Britain squad, which means he will miss the National 10-Mile Championship this Sunday.
Talking of course records, Jason MacIntyre’s record for the WW10/01 near Bishopton in Scotland was finally broken on Sunday with John Archibald (Pro Vision Cycle Clothing) taking the win with a time of 18.38, ten seconds better than the previous record.
Meanwhile, there was also a strong performance in the women’s category, with Lynsey Curran (Dooley’s RT) taking the win.
In Devon, 42-year-old Conrad Moss (Mid-Devon CC) broke the course record for the S4/25 in Exeter Wheelers’ 25 on Sunday, clocking 48.03, while Crystal Spearman (Nopinz) was fastest woman in 57.04.
In Kent, prolific winners Chris Fennell (Thanet RC) and Pip Jenkins (Southborough & Dist Wh) were winners in the Catford CC 25 near Brenzett, where Fennell broke his own course record with a time of 49.54, while Jenkins added another win to her 2017 record with a time of 1-00-57.
David Crawley (Velotik) and Olympic gold medallist Elinor Barker (Matrix Pro Cycling) were the winners in the Withington Wheelers 10, which had to be moved to the J6/10 course near Siddington as roadworks on the Monks Heath course proved problematic.
41-year-old Crawley clocked 20.59 to win by 27 seconds, while Barker’s time of 22-36 gave her an impressive sixth overall.
Barry Charlton and Hannah Macdonald were the senior men’s and women’s winners as North Shropshire Wheelers staged their 25-mile time trial near Prees.
51-year-old Charlton was untouchable with a time of 54.09, while Macdonald posted a time of 59.14.
Brian Fogarty and Anna Weaver were victorious as Wigan Wheelers hosted their 25-mile charity event on the L2521a around Tarn Farm airfield on Sunday.
Brian Fogarty (Fogarty Insurance Tri Team) was the only rider to go under 56 minutes, stopping the clock in 55.38 to win by 39 seconds and claim another victory after his Southport CC 25 triumph last month.
There was a good battle in the women’s competition with the top three riders separated by just 20 seconds, but it was Anna Weaver that came out on top.
The Manchester Tri Club rider stopped the clock in 1:02.30, adding the win to her success at the Manchester and District event over the same distance last month and a third-place finish on the fast V718 course a fortnight ago.
