Sheffrec CC stage their classic hill-climb at Monsal Head in Derbyshire on Sunday, with a full field preparing to tackle the tough 675-yard climb.

 

Many past winners and former national championship medallists are preparing to tackle the 86th edition of the event, which features a one in six gradient.

 

Often described as a sprinter’s climb, it starts off flat for the first 150 yards before steepening dramatically.

 

The men’s field of 186 riders is finished off by Joseph Clark (Envelopemaster), while off just before him is Team Sky pro Ben Swift. In-form Metaltek-Kuota rider Adam Kenway, former national champion Jack Pullar (Pedal Heaven) and road legend Russell Downing (JLT Condor) complete the last few up the hill. Last off in the women’s event is Lou Bates (Veloschils Interbike RT).

 

In Kent, Wigmore CC stage the Kent CA Championship on the Hillingbourne Hill climb on Sunday. Last off is Bill Bell (Bigfoot CC) at noon, while others to tackle the 1,200-yard climb include Pete Tadros (In Gear-Quickvit RT).

 

The Horseshoe Pass near Llangollen is the venue for the Fibrax-Wrexham RC climb, which is the last of 11 rounds in the West Cheshire TTCA Series. Former national champion Dan Evans (Team Elite) is the pre-race favourite and last man off as he prepares for the 2016 title race in a few weeks.

 

Josh Teasdale (Prorace CT) is favourite for the Cleveland Wheelers hill-climb, and is last man to tackle the Clay Bank climb near Great Broughton in Cleveland on Sunday morning.

 

Teasdale then travels over to Stockton Wheelers’ climb of Carlton Bank in the afternoon, which has attracted a quality field including Harry Tanfield (Pedal Heaven) and Shaun Tyson (Adept Precision).

 

And reigning national champion Richard Bussell (AeroCoach) lines up for the Worcester St John’s CC and Wyre Forest CC joint promotion on the KH13 climb at Shelsey Walsh in Worcestershire.

 

Others who will be aiming to pip Bussell to the win on Sunday include former national hill-climb champion Matt Clinton (Mike Vaughan Cycles).

 

And away from hill-climbing, there are still time trials for the hardy rider.

 

The Veterans TTA in East Anglia stage a 30-mile event on the E2 course near Newmarket in Cambridgeshire on Saturday, while their North Midlands division are holding a ten-mile event near Ranby in Nottinghamshire.

 

And on Sunday, Godric CC are holding a 25-mile event in Norfolk, while In North Yorkshire there is a 25-mile event being promoted by the Yorkshire Cycling Federation near Dishforth.
