Photo: Just a week after she lost the national competition record, Hayley Simmonds (AeroCoach) took it back in emphatic fashion, winning the Team Swift 10-mile event at South Cave in East Yorkshire, clocking 18.36.
The event – open to the slowest 120 men as well as women and juniors, was won overall by Simmonds with the next best rider 44 seconds behind. Her time beats the 19-08 set by Anna Turvey on the same course a week earlier.
Over a longer distance, the Severn Road Club’s 50-mile event in Wiltshire was won by David Janes (VC Walcot) whose time of 1-54-11 was over a minute and a half quicker than Rob Pears (Bath CC), while the fastest female in the event near Malmesbury was Emma Angove (Chippenham and Dist Wh) with 2-33-06.
The Westerly Cycling Club staged a 25-mile event at Marlow in Buckingham on Sunday, and it was Rob Walker (High Wycombe CC) who was the fastest with 50-24, giving him the win by a minute and a half from Ben Allen (Westerley CC).
Kate Allen (drag2zero) was the pick of the ladies with an impressive 54.20 giving her sixth place overall and being around five minutes quicker than the next best woman.
National 12-Hour Champion Danny Grieves (GS Metro) secured the Dave Evans Shield with victory in the re-arranged Stockton Wheelers 50-mile time trial on the T502 course in North Yorkshire on Sunday.
Originally scheduled for May 8, the event was postponed on that date because of thick fog, but was re-run today – albeit with a somewhat smaller field.
Olympic Academy rider Scott Davies (Team Wiggins) powered to victory in the VTTA (South Wales) 30-mile time trial in South Wales on Saturday, covering the R30/7 course near Hardwick in an impressive time of 58.22.
Top female was Andrea Parish (Camel Valley C&TC) with a time of 1-11-34, while junior Josh Griffiths (Bristol South CC) took an impressive fifth overall with 1-03-15.
Sotonia CC’s 23km time trial near Salisbury was won by James Boyman (Farnham RC) with a time of 32-49, giving him the win by almost a minute. Faye Faber (IoW CC) was the fastest lady with 39-56.
The event included a category for road bikes, and it was Andover Wheelers’ Craig Wallington who won that with 36-42.
In hill-climbing, Adam Kenway (Matlock CC) enjoyed two wins in one day last Sunday, in the Weaver Valley CC event on the long Cat n Fiddle climb and Bolsover and District’s evening climb at Hardwick Hall.
Kenway clocked 19.12 for the Cat n Fiddle climb which was 13 seconds quicker than runner-up Louis Szymanski (ABC Centreville), while Elizabeth Banks (Fusion RT) was the fastest woman with 28.24.
Kenway then won the Bolsover and District event at the picturesque National Trust 16th century location by three seconds from Danny Featherstone (Andy Moore Autocentres Racing).
Elsewhere, reigning junior national hill-climb champion Kieran Savage took overall victory in the Cotswold Veldrijden three-stage in Wiltshire on Saturday.
Savage was only third on the opening climb as George Fowler (NFTO) took the win. Savage won the second climb, but was pipped by Fowler again in the third climb.
However, he had done enough to win overall by 7.7 seconds. In other categories, Joanne Jago (Performance Cycles) was fastest female, and Nathan Huynh (Cotswold Veldrijden) was the pick of the juniors.
