Photo: Defending champion and 2014 British national hill-climb champion Dan Evans (Team Elite-Paul Bethell Electrical) is the last man off in the Welsh Hill-Climb Championship, being staged on the RH/14 near Llangadog on Sunday.
The event uses a 3.82-mile course from Llangadog to Brynamman, and the event offers Welsh titles to men, women, juniors and juveniles.
Last year, Evans took the win ahead of Ed Laverack (JLT Condor) – who returns for another crack at the title in this year - and Ioan Smallwood. Women’s winner Jessica Roberts (Team Elite) also returns to defend.
In Derbyshire, Adam Kenway (Matlock CC) is among the entrants for the Bolsover and District CC hill-climb which is being staged on Sunday evening in the private grounds of National Trust-owned Hardwick Hall near Chesterfield.
Kenway placed eighth in last year’s national championship.
He is also down to ride the Weaver Valley CC hill-climb on Sunday morning on the Cat n Fiddle climb, covering 6.3 miles out of Macclesfield in Cheshire.
Others who will challenge him for the win include Sam Clark (Buxton CC), as well as Lee Baldwin (Champion System VCUK) who was fourth last year.
GS Metro stage their annual two-stage hill-climb on Sunday, which uses the 1.1-mile climb of Headley on the Hill and the 0.8-mile climb of Eastgate Bank.
The winner of the Border City Wheelers and North Tyneside Riders climbs over the last couple of weeks, Dominic Munnelly (parentini Test Test) is among the entrants, but last year’s winner Ben Davis (Bristol Road Club) returns to defend his win and is the last man off.
T1Diabetes.info are holding a climb on Burrington Coombe in the Mendips on Sunday, covering the two-mile course near Bristol.
Bristol South CC’s Joe Norledge is last man off. When Bristol South staged a climb on the same course last year Norledge was fourth, but none of the riders who finished above him are down to ride.
Tavis Walker (T1Diabetes.info) placed just behind him 12 months ago, and will push to improve.
Norledge will also ride the Cotswold Veldrijden hill-climb on Saturday afternoon too, although he has some competition for the win at Albourne, Wiltshire, with last man off being Pete Tadros (In Gear-Quickvit) as well as Tony Kiss (Stratford Cycle Studios) and Kieran Savage (Team B38).
In time trialling, Anna Turvey (Tyneside Vagabonds) is heading back to East Yorkshire on Saturday, and aiming to have another go at lowering her own national 10-mile competition record.
Having broken the record just seven days earlier, 36-year-old Turvey then head from East Yorkshire to Cumbria where she will ride the Springfield Financial 10 at Levens.
