Photo: Ryan Perry (Langdale Lightweights) and Julia Shaw (drag2zero) were crowned National Circuit Champions after the titles races were staged by Stratford CC in Warwickshire on Sunday.
Already the National 25, 50 and 100-mile champion for 2016, 29-year-old Perry clocked 51.29 for the 25.6-mile course near Alcester, winning by just six seconds from Team Bottrill’s Matthew Smith, while Matt Clinton (Mike Vaughan Cycles) finished third, another ten seconds back.
And multiple national champion Julia Shaw was victorious in the women’s event, the drag2zero rider covering the same course in 58.20 and winning by 55 seconds from Alice Lethbridge (Starley Racing), while Emma Lewis (Adalta CC) was two seconds further off the pace in third.
Marcin Bialoblocki (One Pro Cycling) slashed 25 seconds from Alex Dowsett’s old 25-mile competition record, winning the Port Talbot Wheelers event on the fast R25/3h course in a superb 44.04.
The 33-year-old took the win by almost two and a half minutes, with Scott Davies (Team Wiggins) second with 46.33 while Steve Irwin (North Lancs RC) completed the podium in third with 47.01.
24 hours earlier, Bialoblocki had also smashed the National 10-mile competition record in the SSLL Racing Team event on the V718 in East Yorkshire.
And Anna Turvey (Tyneside Vagabonds CC) also broke the women’s record in the same event.
Bialoblocki beat Alex Dowsett’s old mark by 45 seconds with his time of 16.35, while Turvey’s time of 19.08 knocked ten seconds off Hayley Simmonds’ old record.
The GHS National Schools Championship final took place in Dunnington, Warwickshire, on Saturday and it was Flex-Tech Ettridge Cycles RT rider Joe Laverick who was crowned boys champion, covering the 10-mile course in 21.01. Lauren Dolan of Liv CC-Epic Coaching took the women’s title.
Laverick was 12 seconds quicker than his closest rival with Nathan Allatt (Royal Navy and Royal Marines CA) taking second place with 21.13.
Timothy Torrie (DFL In-Gear) had to settle for third, missing out on second by just a second with 21.14. It proved to be a very competitive top ten with only a few seconds separating the field.
Results for the female riders were also close with Lauren Dolan (Liv CC – Epic Coaching) winning in 22.32, putting her 37th overall.
In North Yorkshire, National 100-mile champion Peter Harrison (GS Henley) showed his quality over half that distance with victory in the 50-mile Yorkshire Road Club event near Thirsk on Sunday.
Amy Ogden of Tuxford Clarion CC rode to first place in the women’s category, her time of 2:01.54 enough to place her 36th overall.
And in Surrey, Jamie Pine’s recent form was rewarded with victory in the Redmon CC 10-mile event near Dorking on Saturday with the Nuun-Sigma Sport-London RT rider taking first place by almost a minute.
Keith Murray claimed an excellent victory in the Team Swift 25 in North Yorkshire on Saturday.
Murray (drag2zero) clocked 48.31 to finish exactly one minute clear of his nearest rival, while Kirsty Smith of Team Swift was the fastest woman of the day with a time of 56.27.
In hill-climbing Dan Evans (Team Elite) was the overall winner of the East Lancs RC two-stage event on Blackstone Edge and Peaslows Hill, completing the two climbs around 15 seconds quicker than Adam Kenway (Matlock CC).
And Dominic Munnelly (Parentini Test Team) won the Border City Wheelers 5.3-mile climb on Hartside by five seconds over Rowan Brackston (Imperial College CC).
