Photo: Riders targeting the 2016 three distance British Best All-Rounder competition have one of the last chances to record a time over the longer distances this weekend, with the CC Breckland 12-hour and the Welsh 100-mile Championship providing the last events over those distances.
Daniel Colman (Pembrokeshire Velo) is last man off in the Welsh CA 100 on Sunday on the R100/8 near Raglan, which has attracted an entry of 80 riders.
And the CC Breckland 12-hour near Scoulton in Norfolk has attracted a 50-strong field including Richard Bideau (Pendle Forest CC) – who already leads the two-distance BBAR – as well as Adam Topham (High Wycombe CC).
Although not a BBAR distance in the women’s competition, there is a quality entry in the CC Breckland event including Bronwen Ewing (Rye and District Wheelers), Katja Rietdorf and Jasmijn Muller (both Born to Bike) and Chester Road Club’s Jill Wilkinson.
Having equalled the national competition record over 10 miles last weekend, in-form James Gullen (Pedal Heaven) is top of the entries for the Lancaster CC 25-mile event at Levens in Culbria on Sunday.
Gullen, who clocked 17.20 to tie with Alex Dowsett’s mark last weekend, has an impressive 45.33 under his belt this season from the Realteam.co.uk event in July, and he will want to record another fast time.
Other entries include Stephen Irwin (North Lancs RC) and David Allonby (Springfield Financial). Among the female entries are Claire Swoboda (Starley Racing), as well as Carol Westmorland (Border City Wheelers) and Hope Kerry (Lancaster RC).
Paceline RT rider Keith Lea is last man off in the Icknield RC 10-mile event on Saturday at Aston Clinton in Buckinghamshire. Among the full field of 150 riders are 16 women, and a tandem event too.
Saturday sees the BDCA stage their 100-mile event, and among the entrants are Richard Bideau, who will be aiming to improve his BBAR time of 3:22.16 with a win before he tackles the CC Breckland 12-hour the following day.
Other riders who will give him some competition are Philip Graves (Clifton CC York) as well as Charles Taylor (Team Bottrill) and Adam Topham (High Wycombe CC).
Currently top of the three-distance men’s BBAR table is Peter Harrison (GS Henley), who also rides the BDCA event at Etwall in Derbyshire. He will be looking to improve his current best for the distance of 3:28.17.
