Photo: Hayley Simmonds (AeroCoach) recorded a blistering 19-18 to set a woman's competition record and helped claim the national team record in the Team Swift 10 staged on the V718 course at South Cave, East Yorkshire.
And she was joined by AeroCoach team-mates Victoria Smith who clocked 20.36 and Lydia Gurley in 20.50 to accumulate a time of 1:00.44 which was 2-41 faster than the previous mark.
“It was alright but I'm still out to find one of the floating days here when I could clock 18 minutes but I'm getting there,” said Simmonds. “It was a bit breezy and it could have been a bit warmer but I can't complain.”
In the men's event James Gullen (Pedal Heaven) remarkably equalled the competition record by posting a 17.20.
The previous day, Gullen broke his own course record for the V415 at Burton Fleming when he clocked 20.43 to win the Scarborough Paragon CC 10 in less than ideal conditions.
Second spot went to 15-year-old Cavan Walker (Acre RT) with 22.52, while the fastest woman was Joanne Burnett (VC Beverley).
Fourth in the Team Swift 10 was Keith Murray, the drag2zero rider who had powered to victory in the previous day’s Border City Wheelers 10 at Newbiggin on Lune in Lancashire.
The 41-year-old clocked 20.07 to win by 51 seconds from John Morgan (Preston Wheelers), while Carol Westmorland (Border City Wheelers) was fastest female with 25.43.
In Kent, both the men’s and women’s course records fell in Catford CC’s 25-mile event on the Q25/12 at Old Romney.
Chris Fennell (Thanet RC) clocked 51.18 to win the men’s event, while Bronwen Ewing (Rye and Dist Wh) broke the women’s record with a time of 58.14.
In West Sussex, there were three course records broken in one day at the Sussex CA 10 on Saturday.
Farnham RC rider James Boyland smashed Chris McNamara’s record of last year by 34 seconds as he raced to top spot. Finishing second overall, Alex Napier of Blazing Saddles shaved a second off Steve Dennis’ veteran record finishing in 22.09.
And finishing in ninth overall, Sarah Phelps of Brighton Mitre put in a fantastic ride to take 39 seconds off the women’s record that has stood for six years.
Bank Holiday Monday saw Peterborough CC’s Matthew Senter win the VC Norwich 10 by just one second, clocking 19.37 for the B10/3b near Attleborough to leave Harley Matthews (Pedal Revolution) second.
Also clocking a 19-minute time was third-placed Mark Richards (VC Baracchi), while the fastest female was Verity Smith (Stowmarket and Dist CC).
And in-form David Woodhouse (GS Henley) added to his win in the Ross on Wye CC 10 last month by winning the VC 10 time trial over the 10-mile F11/10 course near Aston Clinton in Buckinghamshire.
His time of 19.23 was 13 seconds clear of Kevin Tye (VeloRefined Aerosmiths), while third was Jon Wynn (T1 Diabetes.info), another five seconds back.
In Cheshire, Withington Wheelers staged a 10 on the popular J2/1 course at Monks Heath, where David Crawley (Velotik RT) and Emily Martin (Weaver Valley CC) were the men’s and women’s winners respectively.
Crawley’s time of 20.18 gave him the overall win by 38 seconds from Jonathan Gildea (Seamons CC), while Emily Martin won the women’s category by 1-27 from Linda Flavell (Chester RC).
But not all events survived the weekend, with the Darlington CC 50 cancelled after heavy rain made conditions dangerous.
