There must have been something in the air at the weekend with Competition records and course records falling. Pride of place must go to Hayley Simmonds (AeroCoach) who over one week set new Competition records at 50, 10 and 25 miles, a first in our sports history.
British Time Trial Champion Simmonds followed up her `50` record with two more this weekend, the `10` on Saturday followed by the 25-mile record on Sunday. In the Team Jadan `10` on the V718 she improved her own old record by 15 seconds bringing it down to 19-31 and followed that up with a 49-28 in the Bynea CC `25` on Sunday where she beat Angela Hibbs (Fusion RT-Fierlan), 51-01, and Anna Turvey (Tynside Vagabonds), 51-24, who are among the opponents Simmonds faces when she defends her `25` title next Saturday. John Dewey (Team Bottrill) won the men's event with a 46-44. The women's junior comepetition record also fell on the V718 with Henrietta Colbourne setting a time of 20.21.
DUGGLEBY HITS FORM
The Bynea CC event also saw the tandem Competition record go when Adam Duggleby (Secret Training CC) and Steve Bate (Para T) improved Michael Hutchinson and Sean Yates 2006 record by 16 seconds bringing down to 43-23. Duggleby has hit form at the right time as he heads for the Paracycling events in Rio. On Saturday Duggleby finished second in the Team Jadon `10`, just two seconds behind winner David Crawley (Velotik RT) with his 18-29.
TWO COURSE RECORDS FOR COX
Turning to course records, Ashley Cox (CC Luton) knocked out two. On Saturday he won the Chronos RT `10` with a 18-50 on the A428 course and followed that on Sunday with a 21-33
course record for the a3crg `10` on the P886. In both events Emily Cox (Bedfordshire Roads CC) was fastest woman with her 21-42 and 24-30 respectively.
Carl Donaldson (GS Metro) won his club's Allen Mallen Memorial 26-mile event with a course record 57-36 improving the old one by 1-36. The VTTA (North Midlands) `25` on the O25c saw Simon Beldon (SSLL RT) win with a course record 52-38.
CHAMPIONSHIP RIDERS IN ACTION
Elsewhere plenty of competitors for next weekend's 25-mile Championship were in action,Jonathan Parker (Team Bottrill) won the VTTA (East Anglia) `25` with a 47-54; Matt Clinton (Mike Vaughan Cycles) won the Rugby RCC `10` ahead of Matt Sinclair (Lutterworth Cycle Centre) with a 19-06 to Sinclair's 19-43; Jonathan Wears (SSLL RT) claimed the Cleveland Wheelers `25` with a 1-01-46 while Steve Irwin (North Lancs RC) chose the North LancsTTA `100` to hone his form for the `25` winning with a 3-33-32.
