Jessica Disley (AeroCoach) and junior sensation Dylan Sage (Cannibal Bahrain Victorious) claimed victory at the Welsh Cycling Association 10-Mile Championship on 3 August 2025, lighting up the R10/17 course in Abergavenny. Disley, 35, posted 21:22 to secure the women’s title, while Sage, 17, blazed to 18:09, the fastest overall time, in a showcase of speed and strategy under quirky wind conditions.

Conquering the R10/17 Course

The R10/17, a 10-mile out-and-back route along the A40 from Abergavenny to Raglan, demanded precision at the turnaround roundabout. Disley, in her first open time trial of 2025, capitalised on a clear run to power through the return leg. “It was a bit of a slog on the outward leg, but the clear roundabout helped for a quick return,” she said. “Mabli Phillips’ great ride kept me pushing!” Her 21:22 beat Mabli Phillips (Shibden Cycling Club) ( 21:42) by 20 seconds, with Deb Hutson-Lumb (Legato Racing Team (LRT)) ( 22:51) taking third. Alex Bevan (Gannet CC) led the women’s road bike category with 25:30.

Sage, with three wins this season, dominated the open category. “The conditions were weird with no prominent head or tailwind,” he said. “I’m happy with the win, though I missed the course record.” His 18:09 outpaced Owen Burgess (UF Rowe & King) ( 19:13) and Oliver Tregear (Tofauti Everyone Active) ( 19:16). Hedd Griffiths (Cardiff Ajax CC) Hedd Griffith topped the road bike category with 22:24, finishing 40th overall. The 2-up team event saw B Xavier Disley (AeroCoach) and Oliver Bridgewood (Bath Cycling Club) compete on road bikes, adding depth to the championship.

Age Group Highlights

The championship celebrated talent across age groups, with Veteran categories (40+ in 5-year bands) showcasing seasoned performers. In the women’s field, Deb Hutson-Lumb (AG 60-64) topped her age band with 22:51. Aelwen Davies (VMCC powered by Y Beic) (Junior, 17, with 22:52) excelled among younger riders, and Bethan Ouseley (Pembrokeshire Velo) Bethan Ouseley (Pembrokeshire Velo) (AG 45-49, 48, with 24:14) led her category. Dylan Sage (Junior, 17) claimed the open title, while Owen Burgess (AG 40-44, 41 with 19:13) topped his age band. Anthony Jones (AG 50-54, 19:28) and Tony Chapman (AG 50-54, 19:33) also shone.

Future Ambitions

Disley, who raced sparingly this year, is gearing up for the RTTC Closed Circuit Championships in October, this year held at the Croft Motor Racing circuit, plus hill climbs and track races. “I’ll be back for more next year!” she said. Sage, adding another senior Welsh title, aims to build on his 2025 momentum. Their performances on the R10/17 mark them as stars to watch in the cycling world.
