Female cyclist research study

Hi, We are recruiting female cyclists for two research studies at Northumbria University. Would you be willing to share the following post on your Facebook site? Recruiting research participants (Female cyclists) At Northumbria University we have two research studies around the female cyclist to try and address the lack of knowledge of female cyclist specific issues including the effect of periods and the menstrual cycle on training and performance, and the prevalence, type and severity of saddle sores and their impact on training and performance. Study 1 involves a short written pre-interview questionnaire which should take 10 to 15 minutes to complete, and an interview with the principal investigator (Dr Louise Burnie) either face to face at Northumbria University or online (Microsoft Teams) which will take about 30 minutes to an hour. In the first part of the interview Dr Burnie will ask you questions about your menstrual cycle, and hormonal contraceptive use if applicable, and the effect on your training and competition. This will be followed by questions on your bicycle set-up, injuries, and saddle sores. At any point during the interview if you feel uncomfortable you can ask Dr Burnie to stop the interview. Study 2 consists of an online survey which should take 20 minutes to complete. The researchers will then assess whether you are eligible for this study and if you are, invite you to an online briefing meeting via Microsoft Teams which will take about 15 minutes. You will then be asked to complete a daily questionnaire which will take 5 minutes to complete for a whole menstrual cycle (so from day one of your period, to day one of your next period, or for 28 days if you are a hormonal contraceptive user). If you are interested in taking part (in one or both studies) or have any questions, please email me louise.burnie@northumbria.ac.uk
