Angela Carpenter (...a3crg) and Richard Oakes (Ohten Aveas) put on dominant displays at the VTTA National 10 Mile Championship taking the men’s and women’s victories on scratch and handicap.

Carpenter, from Chichester in West Sussex, recorded a winning time of 21 minutes and 59 seconds to give her a handicap time of 18-30. She is unbeaten in the VTTA national events this season adding the 10-mile event to her previous crowns over 15, 30 and 25 miles in the women’s event.

And the men’s event was dominated by Oakes recording the fastest time on scratch and handicap.

The 52-year-old from Leicestershire also won the VTTA National 25 Mile Championships earlier this month and was in top spot again.

He recorded a scratch time of 19-25 which was over a minute clear of his nearest rival and equated to a handicap time of 18-30.

Elsewhere, David Fellows (Solihull CC) and Alison Dockney (Market Drayton CC) proved their mettle over a tough course as they battled to the men’s and women’s victories at the Fibrax Wrexham RC Hilly event over 32 miles.

Birmingham-based Fellows tackled the course – which includes two ascents of the Horseshoe Pass Mountain – in 1-17-28, while fastest female Dockney clocked 1-39-36.

And in Hampshire Jennifer George (The Independent Pedaler – Nopinz) set a new course record on her way to taking the women’s victory at the Paceline 10, while Christopher McNamara (Nuun-Sigma Sport-London RT) won the men’s event.

George, aged 38, set an open person best time of 20 minutes and 17 seconds to take the women’s victory by 23 seconds. And McNamara took his 11th victory of the season clocking a time of 18-24 which was just three seconds down on his open personal best.

Veteran Robert Willcocks (Royal Air Force CA) took his third victory of the season, finishing six seconds ahead of his rivals in the Tavistock Wheelers 10, while Amber Harding (Exeter Triathlon Club) won the women’s event.

40-year-old Willcocks who also won over the same course in July clocked a winning time of 19 minutes and 41 seconds. Meanwhile Amber Harding (Exeter Triathlon Club) took her second victory of the month finishing in a time of 21 minutes and 51 seconds.

In Norfolk Nick Partridge and Jackie Field took victories in the Eastern Counties CA 25-mile event, where good conditions led to several personal best performances.

Partridge, the 43-year-old rider with VC Baracchi, clocked a personal best time of 49-30 to secure his second open victory of the season.

He was 41 seconds faster than Army Cycling’s Brendan Reese in second spot, while third was James Scarth (Bishop’s Stortford CC), just shy of a minute further off the pace.

Evergreen veteran Jackie Field (CC Ashwell) covered the course near Attleborough in 55-54 to win the women’s award by 51 seconds from Marianne Holt (Fareham Wheelers). CC Sudbury’s Susan Triplow was third.

In hill-climbing Kieran Wynne-Cattanach and Mary Wilkinson were fastest male and female riders at the Birdwell Wheelers climb of Green Moor Road in Stocksbridge.

Returning to action following an absence from racing, Wynne-Cattanach (Team Lifting Gear Products) clocked 2-17.1 and pipped last year’s winner and team-mate Andy Nichols by a slender 0.6 seconds.

Wilkinson’s time of 2-41.0 was a new women’s course record, and made it two wins in a day having also tasted victory in the Geared Up C and N Cycles climb that morning.

In Northumberland Nick Munro (Royal Air Force CA) took a narrow victory in the GS Metro climb at Hedley on the Hill, while Hannah Farran (Team Boompods) dominated the women’s field to come away with a comfortable win.

And on the nearby Quarrington hill climb Dave Diston (Muckle CC) proved fastest overall at the Ferryhill Wheelers event, while Ellen Powell (Durham Triathlon Club) was the winner of the women’s category.

Over in Cumbria Andy Cunningham (Ilkley CC) powered to victory in the Beacon Wheelers hill climb, while Frances Owen (Fibrax Wrexham RC) claimed victory in the women’s event.

The event on the four-mile Great Dun Fell climb saw 32-year-old Cunningham clock 23:58 to win ahead of scratch man David Fellows, while Owen, competing in her first hill climb event of the season, clocked a time of 28:47 which was enough to see her win by over 20 seconds.

And on Saturday reigning national hill-climb champion Andrew Feather (HuntBikeWheels.com) continued his preparations for the 2021 title race with victory at the Sodbury Cycle Sport hill climb, while Rosie Wayland (Dursley RC) took the top spot in the women’s event by a comfortable margin also.
