George Peden (Team PB Performance) continued his winning form at the VTTA East Mids 25 finishing almost one minute clear of his nearest competitor, while Susan Semple (Legato Racing Team) won the women’s event.

Peden, aged 23 and from Leeds, took his third open time trial victory from as many events by posting a time of 46 minutes and 57 seconds – despite a tough wind on the return leg.

The A25/34 saw riders start near East Stoke before joining the A46 and heading down to the Stragglethorpe Interchange. On the longer return journey competitors headed past where they came onto the A46 and continued to Newark-on-Trent before turning onto Fosse Road for the finish.

An unfavourable wind impacted on times as competitors battled against a stiff breeze on the longer return leg.

Peden also won the Bramley Wheelers and Farnborough & Camberley 10-mile events earlier this season and made it three victories from as many open time trials this year.

Scratch rider Oliver Peckover (trainSharp) was unbeaten in individual open time trials this season coming into the event with four wins to his name.

However, the 25-year-old had to settle for second this time out finishing 56 seconds down in 47-53. Quickest veteran on scratch David Mead   Team (Lutterworth Cycle Centre) completed the podium positions in 49-31.

Spindata had predicted a victory for Peckover in 47-00 but he was 53 seconds slower than that time, while Peden improved on his predicted 47-07 despite the windy conditions.

“It was definitely a hot day and a strong win on the longer return section which made it tough on the way back,” said Peden.

“My time was identical to my personal best, I couldn’t have done that if I tried, so I’m pleased with the ride and interest to see what I could do on a better day.

“I didn’t expect to get the win as Oliver (Peckover) is a strong rider, he had a few issues with his break rubbing.”

Peden, originally from County Antrim, will return to the same area next weekend when he competes in the VTTA National 50 Championship.

“It’s the first ever 50 that I’ve ever done so it’s a bit of an unknown for me,” Peden added. “I’m continuing to build towards the Irish national championships and see how I stack up against the World Tour riders.”

The fastest team of three riders on actual time was Team Lutterworth Cycle Centre with Mead leading the way alongside Nick Cave (55-58) and Ian Wroblewski (56-54)

In the women’s Semple posted a winning time of one hour and 42 seconds which was 52 seconds faster than her nearest competitor.

The 57-year-old also won her home event, the Stafford RC 10, on her last open outing and continued her winning form this time out.

A close battle for seconds saw 61-year-old Lindsay Clarke (Fenland Clarion CC) stop the clock in 1-01-34 which was 18 seconds faster than Fay Barrington (Banbury Star Cyclists' Club) (1-01-52).

The veterans on age adjusted time competition was won by 51-year-old Julian Ramsbottom (Team Bottrill) with his actual time of 51-57 altered to 49-47. Second place in the competition was Andy Thomas (Lindsey Roads Cycling Club) whose age adjusted time of 49-56 was a single second faster than Mick Stevens (Melton Olympic CC).

As well as winning the women’s event Semple also led Legato RT to the team award on age adjusted time with her altered time of 50-24 alongside Joseph Costello (50-36) and Mark Hamer (51-08).

The only tandem duo of Rachael Elliot and Ian Greenstreet (Newbury Velo) turned in another class performance stopping the clock in 51-44, which giving them a 46-14 on age adjusted time.
