George Fox and Angela Carpenter were fastest male and female riders respectively at the Leo RC 30-mile time trial in Cambridgeshire on Saturday afternoon.

27-year-old Fox, riding for George Fox Cycling Solutions, clocked 58-10 to win by just two seconds from veteran Matthew Smith (Drag2Zero), while third went to Alex Royle (Manchester BC) who was just another eight seconds back.

And in the women’s event prolific winner Angela Carpenter, the 52-year-old a3crg rider from Chichester, covered the course in 1-05-57 to take victory in the women’s category by just over two minutes with Bath CC rival Kim Barfoot-Brace second and Jackie Field (CC Ashwell) third, another minute off the pace.

Overall there were some great rides on a far from perfect day, with a cross northerly wind and cold temperatures providing a challenge.

It was also close in the tandem event, where Glenn Taylor and Mark Arnold clocked 58-28 to win by only 20 seconds from Rachael Elliott and Ian Greenstreet.

In other categories there was a new competition record in the junior women’s category (subject to ratification) with Bethany Spencer (Kettering CC) clocking 1-16-03 to beat the 2019 record Katie-Ann Elliston (Southend Wheelers) by 1-13.

And at the other end of the age spectrum, 91-year-old Peter Horsnell set a new VTTA age record with 1-37-26, averaging an impressive 18.5mph.

The event used the F2/30 course and mostly the A428. Beginning on minor roads alongside the A428, it turns on and heads west to a turn at Caxton Gibbet. Riders then turn again at the junction of Scotland Road near Dry Drayton and retrace to Dry Drayton before turning again. The final time, they continue on past Dry Drayton and finish on the slip road to Madingley Road.
