Form riders Dan Evans and Fiona Burnie claimed wins in the respective men’s and women’s races at the Huddersfield Star Wheelers hill-climb on Saturday morning.

The first stage of the event saw the field tackle the 0.9-mile Jackson Bridge climb, host course for the 2015 National Hill-climb, with stage two hosted by Holme Valley Wheelers on the horizon later in the day.

It was Evans who again powered to victory though, the ASSOS Equipe UK rider stopping the clock in 4:02.2.

This was the eighth win of 2017 for the national champion from 2014, the 37-year-old from Colwyn Bay adding the victory the Otley 2-stage earlier this month as well as reclaiming his Welsh title in September.

Espoir Kieran Savage claimed second for Team B38-Underpin, just 3.2 seconds outside Evans’ time, whilst Leon Wright (Race Hub) completed the podium, snatching third place from David Huck by four tenths of a second.

Fiona Burnie has been in similarly impressive form as Evans, and she took the women’s title on Saturday.

The GS Metro rider clocked 5:19.3, beating out Jessica Evans (ASSOS Equipe UK) and junior Lily Greenhalgh into second and third place.

Burnie has won all four of her hill-climb events in October, adding this title to her double last weekend at the Lancashire RC climb and the Otley two stage event, as well as the Stockton Wheelers climb on the THC7 course.

Elsewhere, Mason Hollyman put in an impressive ride as fastest Junior, the Homfirth CC youngster clocked 4:28.9 to break into the top ten, whilst David Barnett (Jackpot Racing) was quickest veteran.
