Daniel Wyatt opened his 2024 season with an impressive victory at the Cardiff 100 Miles Road Cycling Club 15-mile time trial in Llanellen, Monmouthshire, on Saturday afternoon, while Kimberley Barfoot-Brace picked up first place in the women’s event in her first competition of the campaign.

Clocking 31-57 despite a two-second late start, Wyatt (Hereford & District Wheelers) secured his first ever time trial win from 27 previous events dating back to 2019, finishing 17 seconds faster than runner-up Theo Tadros of trainSharp in 31-57, while a time of 32-02 helped Gloucester City CC’s Tim Radley to the final spot on the podium.

In the women’s event Barfoot-Brace (Team Bottrill) finished in 33-53 to see off a challenge from Roxy Woodfield (Ludlow Brewery Race Team) who took second place in 36-11, while Bethan Ouseley (Pembrokeshire Velo) was third, seven seconds further back in 36-18.

Barfoot-Brace said afterwards: “I was super keen to kick off the season, the first race is always particularly nerve-wracking as you get your head back into it and put the winter training to test.

“My nerves subsided when I arrived at the pretty Welsh HQ and met super friendly organisers and fellow riders… I love TT culture!

“As February goes the conditions could have been worse, but it was super cold and I struggled to get my legs moving! That aside I was pleased to execute a decent ride with a personal best for 15 miles, and always a big bonus to take the win.

“I loved representing Team Bottrill in our bright new Nopinz kit, it felt really good.”

In other categories the fastest two-up was the Pontypool RCC team of Paul Hayward and Gerry Bowditch in 31-48.

This event, run on the R15/5 course, starts east of Llanellen then heads north before turning south at Hardwick roundabout, with riders proceeding southeast to Raglan roundabout, turning again and heading back towards Abergavenny.
