Tyler Hannay lived up to his billing as pre-race Spindata favourite with victory at the East Lancashire Road Club 10-mile time trial, with Monica Greenwood finishing fastest female.

Riding for Saint Piran, Hannay was the only competitor to break the 19-minute barrier, finishing in 18-50 to clinch victory ahead of the 19-00 set by Douglas Watson (GTR – Return to Life p/b Streamline) with 360cycling’s Tristan Pilling taking the final spot on the podium in 19-14.

Hannay now has three wins from three events this season, having also won the North Lancashire RC 10-mile time trial on March 30 and the Rossendale RC Bolton-by-Bowland Circuit 10.3-mile time trial on February 24.

On his victory, Hannay said: “It was the famous Levens course and I had never done before so I literally didn’t know what to expect.

“There were some tough British conditions with rain to keep us honest, but I knew it was more of a headwind out and tailwind back so tried to pace it according to that. I think it worked well and I got everything out for myself.”

In the women’s event, Greenwood produced an emphatic ride to see off what was a highly competitive field.

Clocking 20-55, the Macclesfield Wheelers rider saw Wrekinsport CC’s Hayley Wells finish second in 22-18, while Beth Macrae (Jadan Vive Le Velo) managed third place in 22-24.

“I enjoyed the course, it’s been a few years since I’ve been to Levens,” said Greenwood.

“The rain and conditions weren’t optimal but it was my first TT of the year and it was a power and time PB for me so I am happy with that.

“Whilst I’m not local my husband’s family is from the area so it’s always nice to come up and race and spend some time with family.”

This 10-mile event, run on the L1015 course, starts east of Levens, just southwest of the A6 and proceeds along the A590 in a south-westerly direction, encircling the roundabout on Lindale bypass and retrace along the A590 in a north-easterly direction to finish just short of Levens Bridge.
